Cameron Introduces JESUS. No, really...

Christianity is not a cult..." a cult is a term designating a cohesive group of people (sometimes a relatively small and recently founded religious movement, sometimes numbering in the hundreds of thousands) devoted to beliefs or practices that the surrounding culture or society considers to be far outside the mainstream, sometimes reaching the point of a taboo." Sorry to say but the majority of Americans are Christian and/or believe in God. Now when Christians or theists are the minority, then it will be a cult and considered taboo to the atheist majority.

Exactly.

That being said, as I stated, while I have very strong faith in God as well as The Bible and Jesus Christ, I don't believe in organized religion all that much. Like I said in previous threads, I don't think God likes it either.

Definitions define what a word means...definitions aside...WTF is a cult?:whatever: And Stephen Colbert had his fans edit what an Elephant was, so definitions aside, is Stephen Colbert right now?

Exactly.

And I don't think that atheists will become the majority anytime soon. Yes, they may be overall the third most common belief system in the world, when you total up the number of people in the world who do believe in God or any type of higher power, the number becomes insignificant regardless of rank.

Pat Robertson and Charlton Heston won't allow it. I doubt I will be alive if and when that day comes...many years from now.

While I do agree with you, Pat Robertson is d**che

HAHA...I know...I hate Pat Robertson too with a passion...I was joking. I was just imagining Pat and Charlton on the front line with Rambo attire and arsenal. But they can't win the battle without your contributions.:woot:

"definitions define what a word means"? awesome!!! guess what! the sun is hot!

Cult : A religious group that follows a particular theological system. In the context of Christianity, and in particular, CARM, it is a group that uses the Bible but distorts the doctrines that affect salvation sufficiently to cause salvation to be unattainable. A few examples of cults are Mormonism, Jehovah's Witnesses, Christian Science, Christadelphians, Unity, Religious Science, The Way International, and the Moonies. (See also Cults)

again Christianity is a cult by definition, and for a long time your beliefs were held outside the mainstream. so, you're just a BIG cult now.
but still a cult.

We both gave valid defintions...does that mean the world will stop spinning and we will be sucked into black eternity? We are talking about America. In Rome, Christianity was a cult for some time. In America, this country was founded on deist beliefs and therefore it is the norm and the majority, which isn't what a cult is. Once again, a cult is a religious following outside of the norm and majority...today in America, that is not Christianity. For a long time my beliefs were outside the norm, but we aren't talking about 3,000 years ago. But now, your the odd man out and the "big cult now". Have fun.

I also didn't know that the logic definition for the sun was "it is hot."

Well, actually I don't have problems with Heston. While I don't agree with a lot of his politivs, I admire the fact that he fought for what he believed in, and he did in a far more tolerable and far less embarassing than anything by Robinson, Falwell or Phelps.

Robertson is ******* in the truest sense. He said 9 / 11 was God punishing America for becoming too accepting of homosexuals. A man who more often than not makes me ashamed and even afraid to be a Christian, and one of the main reasons I view Christianity as my choice of lifestyle rather than my religion.

Agreed.

LOL, you don't get it do you? Christianity is a cult.
by definition.
write endless blocks of text all you want, it will be a cult.
tell me about how it's the foundation of the US, it will still be a a cult.
 how's this not getting through to you?

Are you f****** ********? I am talking about America, the U.S., the big powerful country that looms over your 3rd world shanty town. Christianity/theism in America is not a cult because it holds the majority. Now throughout history, Christiniaty is a vast minority and is considered a cult. But once again, I am talking about America. All the founding father's of this country were deists...their beliefs dictated their words...how is that for foundation for you? How different would this country be if a bunch of Satanists founded it? A cult isn't a bad thing and the latin root is actually many positive connotations. You can argue with me all you want about Christianity is America being a cult, but you are wrong.

Again, it's not a cult by definition, despite what you want it to be. A cult is something outisde of the mainstream and whose followers are small in number compared to the rest of society. Christianity is accepted by the mainstream, in fact most of the mainstream follows it, and its numbers are quite large.

LOL, you're an idiot. what does any of that have to do with Christianity being a Cult by DEFINITION?
it's a cult. for a citizen of a Big and Powerful country it must be frustrating to know you have such limited comprehension of your own language and that some guy in a 3rd world shanty town has a vastly superior intellect to yours.

there there buddy, it'll be ok :csad::up:

:whatever: I don't "want" it to be anything. the only thing is want is for you to get acquainted with your own damned language.

Keep arguing and pull your head out of you *** so you can see and catch a breath. It's also hard to comprehend how a lot of word's meanings change over time or gather new definitions. For the last f***ing time...Christianity/theism is not a cult in the U.S. because it contains the majority...now please ****.

When you learn how to structure complete and coherent sentences from that "damned" language, then you can lecture us about it.

In order for it to be a cult it would have to be exclusivist, i.e. require very strict and identifiable traits and requirements for their members. Christians can "self determine" whereas a cult member cannot. If I say I am a Christian such as Thomas Jefferson, Jerry Falwell and Joseph Smith have all claimed (despite being incredibly dissimilar) to be Christians, we would all be considered Christians and yet do not share the same beliefs, habits or customs, as would not be the case in a cult.

Christianity also does not cloister itself away from the world or make itself a subculture or pocket culture like a cult does. Christians very much interact with and even have influence (significant influence) on mainstream society.

Christianity is also unlike a cult because it is not "life altering". It doesn't remove one from participating in any activities.

lol, the topic here is religion and the main point of contention now is semantics.

True and goodluck trying to get that across.

SO the documentary is discarded enough to make offtopic discusions allready?

just as spected.

Here is how it works. 1. Any Jesus/God/religious thread or question is started. 2. Atheists and other non believers come in and poke jokes at the believers. 3. Theists/believers get offended and respond. 4. People start arguing and get off topic.
