Can superheroes ever exist??

yeah!! I saw that, infact I taped it. That guy was incredible, his mind had the ability to calculate incredible amounts of numbers without him even trying, he pretty much saw the answers in his head like looking at a calculator.

people like that are called savants.

there is also this other guy which had the knowledge of everything, infact he was called the walking/living google or encyclopedia.

That second guy was the basis for ray in rain man, he was scary :wow:

I can fit like 8 mini rolls in my mouth at once? does that count?

if you can manage 10... maybe :cwink:

it's only 8 because i ran out of mini rolls!!! I can fit large amounts of cake and stuff, and i have stretchy skin!

Theoretically, superhuman abilities are possible. At least, some of them are. Superhuman strength, speed, durability, endurance, and senses are all possible to some degree. A manipulation of electricity and electromagnetism in the veign of Electro and Magneto is also, theoretically, plausible. There have been reported cases of people who's bodies generate massive amounts of electricity, although limited control if any exists at all, which in of itself is quite rare. Psychic abilities, such as telepathy and telekenisis, while still under much debate, have yet to be disproven due to a lack of evidence that disproves them just as much of a lack of evidence that proves them. This is all because of the limitations of testing claims of these abilities based on current technology. Of course, the likelyhood of such abilities is small, based on either scenario. The first is that, due to some sort of genetic mutation at birth, you possess these abilities. While this is possible, it's highly unlikely. The number of genetic mutations in the world is small, and the number of beneficial ones would be moreso. The other scenario is that these abilities are artificially gained through gene therapy, chemical injections, surgury, bionic enhancements, and other such methods. This is unlikely due simply to the fact that it would be quite expensive, requiring the resources of a highly succesful conglomorate or a government institution. Neither such organizations would atempt it due to the vast cost and limited profit.

if a superhero can be beaten or destroyed by a normal person, they are not super, just different. Xavier could stop people from beating him, hence super, as in superior.

That is complete bul****. If a person is superhumanly inteligent, then theyb are super. But that wont save their ass in a fight.

The sheepish masses dismiss the existance of Superheroes as mere "urban legends", "myths", incredible stories told by uncredible criminals. The sheepish masses can beleive whatever they like, those criminals, at least the ones that survived to tell their stories, know what happened to them, they know the true story, and the "urban legends", the "myths", whether by design or coincidnce, wouldnt have it any other way.

just kidding

but a masked vigilante wouldnt be all that hard to beleive.

Agreed. Superhumans simply mean they have some sort of ability that either is not present in a regular human, or the trait is present, but is far superior beyond normal human levels. That doesn't mean they're invincible by any standard.

Nightcrawler would be another, or Dazzler. Or really any superhero who can die by bullets or bats. Sure, they do something totally different, but they're still totally vulnerable.

Hell, one could argue that Dr. Doom and Lex Luthor, due to their uniquely high intelects, are superhumans.

I find superheroes whose mortality is constantly a factor in how they fight far more interesting. Hence why I hate superman :cwink:

I can't be sure obviously but I'm betting that's some kind of autism.

yeah I saw that guy on the discovery channel. He had some mental disorder that was usually debilitating (sp?) but it effected him in a way that made him super smart. except they did some test on him with numbers and he couldnt even do simple math (he saw numbers as being big or small, 0 was small, 6 was huge, 5 was medium, they gave him a paper where the numbers he saw as big were small and vice versa... it totally through off his thought process)

he had a similar disorder to "the rain man" a guy who remembers everything he's ever read. they even showed a guy who could tell you what the weather was like in new york on any day of the past 30 years... all the way back to when he got hit in the head with a baseball.

maybe in a few years we can develop something of a super solider fomula but right now i'm not so sure

I could see a retrovirus such as Extremis. But I don't know to what extent it would work.

he was german. Born a mutant because of a certain protein that gave him twice the normal amount of muscle a normal baby of his size should have. Yes I think someday we will have abilities to do "super" things.

Yes, that's the guy I was talking about in my first post.

Can anyone find an article? It's very interesting. It seems totally possible that he will grow up to be healthy, yet incredibly, incredibly strong.

Superheroes exist everyday.

Heroes do super things all the time, thus making them Superheroes. Yay! :oldrazz:

But if you're talking superhuman as in Captain America-esque...who knows there might be and we don't know about it.

Could there really be a Stargate?

Or aliens?

then again surely captain america is achievable, once the human genome is completely mapped we will be able to create an equivalent to the super-soldier serum/grow super-soldiers in a lab, ala tony **** stark :csad:
