I remember back when dvds first came out there was one dvd with the movie and all the stuff, that was the point, you get the movie, better picture etc., and all the extra stuff, now they rip you off with one dvd with nothing on it, and an expensive one with all the stuff, where as before when the movie would first come out it would have one dvd and a sales price, now you get ripped off, I first noticed the garbage start with Harry Potter, now Spider-man's doing it.

What a load of crap! It is wrong.

Yes it is. I've seen people give the excuse that some people don't want the extras. Well, no one's forcing them to watch them so it's pointless to have two different versions.

It may be wrong but it is perfectly legal in Hollywood's eyes. They pretty much sacrifice the single disc releases of movies because they know that a real movie fan who wants everything about the movie will pay out the extra money to get the 2 disc special edition sets.

That's why stores like Walmart & others only offer special novelty items or exclusive bonus discs with the single disc releases because they know that they wouldn't sell that many of just the single disc releases by themselves.

I think it's a great idea to release 2 versions of a particularly popular title - one for the casuals, who liked the movie but not enough to warrant all the specials and whatnot; and then the "special edition" for the hardcore fans who like to watch the various documentaries filmed during the movie's production.

HOWEVER, what really pisses me off is when companies first release a "bare bones" disc and THEN re-release the film with LOADED extras a year down the line. It happened with numerous films I've planned on picking up, but I refuse to partake in "double-dipping." It happened with KILL BILL ("The Whole Bloody Affair" is planned for release *sometime*) and most recently with GRINDHOUSE (ugh... I know the film did poorly in theaters, but why piss us fans off just so you schmucks can make a couple extra bucks?)

They should only release ONE version WITH extras. Getting rid of extras on DVDs is like going back to VHS, except with better picture and sound quality. I wish they would stop this bulls**t. And to the people who say, "Oh, I don't want extras", I have to say shut up and just take the damn DVD.

The thing is, the 2-disc versions that used to come out costs the same as the 1 disc versions while the current 2-disc editions cost you additional money. I've got no problem with studios releasing 2 separate versions but raising the price? Another reason why people would hate this is because certain stores will only bundle one version with their exclusive and most likely it'll be the single disc edition. Hopefully this clarifies why we don't like companies releasing the two separate DVD sets.
