Cancelled

It did start off rough, but it got expontentially better as it went on.

That was due to the supporting cast being good. Not because Sticky got noticeably better at carrying the Blade role, nor because the fight scenes improved a LOT.

Example. The last fight between Krista and Chase. Really go back and look at some of the movements of the two girls.

Bleh.

IMHO there should have been ONE choice to play Blade on the TV and Goyer was too afraid of someone like Michael J. White overpowering the rest of the cast.

YOu know what? Blade should overpower the rest of the cast.

The first two Blade films just got exponentially better after watching this series. Yes, the series was entertaining, but I tuned in to watch BLADE. Not Krista's Adventures in vampire land.

Philly's top 5 list of mistakes leading to Blade being cancelled:

1. Needed a network other than Spike. This network just didn't have the money or experience needed to pull off a long term series.

2. Needed a less serial based storyline. I know guys that missed a few shows and gave up on the series because of how much much the story required you to see every episode.

3. Should have learned from Blade: Trinity that story should have been primarily about Blade and his background. The best episode for me was "Bad Blood" -- there needed to be more of these themed shows and less episodes trying to build up the Krista character.

4. The lead was the weakest link. Sticky showed some improvement as the show progressed but not enough to overcome how much better the show would have been with an actor like MJW as Blade.

5. Where were the cameos by other Marvel characters that they promised? This may seem like a minor gripe but look at how shows like Smallville, Lois & Clark etc. introduced characters from the comics. In retrospect, by having a cameo every few episodes Goyer could have helped generate some added interest in the series.

Excellent breakdown of why the show failed.

The actor who palys Marcus Van Sciver ( Neil Jackson) posted over on the official boards for Blade ( Well, the message boards that the Spike TV site links to for Blade, they never gave it a board on their own site...says sumthin' right there ) and says that New Line is 100% behind the show, and are shopping it to another network as we speak. So there may be some hope left. I can see the show surviving on one of the other Cable Networks, especially Sci Fi. Personally, I thought the pilot stunk, but the show got waaaay better as it went on. Spike could have had their own breakout show with this, now they will forever just be the Redneck network with out of place Star Trek re-runs. This could have been their Battlestar Galactica given time. I mean, who would have thought Battlestar would be getting all this aclaim? Now they are starting their third season and are on the cover of Entertainment Weekly....but it didn't happen overnight. Spike is just a short sighted network.

Grrrrr.....I'll reluctantly watch the show if it's picked up by Sci Fi or USA (it's better IMHO than any of the Sci Fi shows that don't come on Fridays).

Maybe even F/X will pick it up? They love trying out new types of shows.

Anyways, this is bull**** and now I'll never have to watch Spike again. :)

I can't believe I will never get to see Jill Wagner wear another hot vampire outfit again. NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Shopping it to another network huh?

Got a link to that Lestat74?

I hope it's true. If another network does pick it up, i hope it's F/X. I think you can get away with the same language and partial nudity just as Spiketv, so the show won't change too much in the context of rawness. Plus F/X show 'Thief' was pure crap to me, so they need something to take it's place...

blade was a co star in his own film in trinity - trinity was the worst of the lot in terms of movie and gross

blade was a co star in his own series - I quite liked the series but I tuned in to see blade after all it is called 'blade' the series rather than 'MVS' the series or 'krista' the series.

your points are valid i tapedthe show when it started but dropped it wheni'd read the krista character became too prominent:ninja:

I only watched like 3 to 5 minutes of it and thought that it was corny garbage. Sticky didn't have the acting chops to pull off Blade and Snipes is Blade anyway, so I probably wouldn't have excepted anyone other than him playing the role. From what I've read Blade isn't even staring in the show, so good riddice to bad rubbish.

I hope you're right. I hope Sci-Fi or something picks it up.

...I hope it's legit and things work out. :yay:/:csad:

I thought Blade the Series was okay, but it was never near the level of writing, acting, action, suspense, drama, etc. of the new BSG. You are right that no one expected new BSG to be the critical hit that it has been. But Blade the Series was in a totally different league. There's nothing wrong with that, but I think BSG had higher aspirations, more to say about our world and our time, whereas Blade the Series was supposed to appeal to the lowest common denominator and the "Spike TV" demographic, whatever the hell that is supposed to be. BSG is an "A" type show, and Blade was a "B" level show all the way.

And so....

Goyers idea of an "ensemble" cast that stole the focus away from the main character didn't pan out.

His choice of Sticky over Michael J. White didn't pan out.

He obviously went with what HE wanted on the TV set, not what America nor Spike TV wanted on the set.

I say, I'm sorry that the CAST (whom other than Sticky, were perfectly cast) and the crew won't have this gig anymore. I'm sorry for the fans of Blade that expected more. I'm sorry for Spike TV not recouping their investment.

BUT, Goyer did this more than Spike TV. At least Spike gave the show a chance.

Goyer didn't care about the Blade character from the get go IMHO. Blade was a vessel for Goyer to create a vampire universe. One that IMHO he felt could survive even if the main character on the show was a LOT less interesting than his supporting cast.

I'm not sorry Goyer wasn't successful with this.

Hopefully he will pass on the rights to the Blade character to someone that actually wants a strong, commanding Blade at the helm.

I think you've made some good points here. I've started to see Goyer as something of a George Lucas or Gene Roddenberry type. GL created Star Wars and the original trilogy was a classic, but he should've handed the reins over to new talent for the prequels, and perhaps just come up with the story, set designs, FX, and let other people bring his vision to life. Roddenberry created Star Trek, but his stewardship of the first couple years of TNG, esp. the first season, was bad.

And now Goyer, who reinvented Blade and made him cool as hell, had seemingly lost interest in Blade as a character by Trinity, and the lack of development of the character on the series proved to me that it was time for new blood because I think Goyer didn't know what to do or where to go with Blade.

Do you guys think it would have been cancelled even if Snipes was in it?

Probably not. Expectations were pretty high leading up to the series and if Snipes was involved, the fanbase that got turned off by Kirk Jones would have remained solid.

I think it all depends, because Blade Trinity left a foul taste in many peoples mouths. So that turned a lot of people off from the TV show especially with Goyer doing the hype job that he did with Trinity with show. I think if Blade Trinity would of been good, I don't think the show would of got cancelled so soon if they had Snipes.

It's like Snipes said before at the Bladetrinity.com forums some people get way more credit then others over the Blade movies. Snipes was reffering to Goyer and the other producers. It just goes to show you how much Snipes is in the movie Blade character, he brought in his own fight team, designed some of the cool weapons etc. Objected not to do some things that was printed on paper from Goyer's screenplays and the first 2 movies came out fine.

Damn it. Shame the show was cancelled right when the season finished with that much of a cliffhanger.

Considering that it was debatable on whether or not there would be a second season. I dont understand why they did a cliffhanger.

I know, Perhaps they were caught off guard just like the cast of Farscape.

I liked the show as it was for the most part. And I'm surprised it got cancelled. I really thought the ratings were good enough for Spike to give it a chance to grow its audience.

But if Snipes had reprised the role I really think the show would've made it to another season. I think there would've been more fans watching intially and might've stayed with the show. Also, I'm certain that if Snipes had come back his character would've been the center of the show and that would've helped it tremendously.

way to go, spike tv, for cancelling the only good show you have... other than MXC

maybe if they didn't play it on wednesdays at effing 10pm?!

You need to watch the whole season. There were eppys where the focus was on Krista or Marcus but it was on Blade most of the time. It wasn't corny at all. It was dark and violent and exactly what the current TV scene needed. I hope that someone picks it up because Spike has no idea what it's doing.

Spike Tv sucks donkey anus!
The show wasn't on the same level of the Blade movies! But it was a very good show, and Sticky Fingaz was awsome as Blade!
Hope The Sci Fi network or another network like Fox picks the show up for another season...

yes they did maybe if goyers contract hadn't given him so much control the show would be better and filming a second season:ninja:
