Okay, so Cap's taken on aliens. A hit from Thors hammer, faught Ultron, thrown a motorcycle, held down a helicopter, and as we've seen in the most recent TV Spot. Cap kicked a truck into a guy. A truck guys. The question rises. Are they going too far with Caps strength?

Cap fell from a building about 50ft high (I think it was) and with the help of his shield cushioning his fall, he walked away with a little ouchie. I think they'd anti-nerfed him a while ago. :funny:

Look, I've always reasoned that he's the ULTIMATE in human achievement.
in speed, strength, agility, durability, etc .
And we really don't know what that is. Humanity is breaking records all the time.
What makes him absolutely beyond human is his ability to be the peak in ALL those areas.
Also, combine the speed of his arm or leg, with that strength and durability?
There's our Cap.

I know. I know he's peak. He just has to reach his limit somewhere. Y'know. I don't want him to start tossing cars around like Thor in Avengers. Or throwing forklifts like Hulk in IH, or catching falling cars like Iron Man in 2008. Y'know. :funny:

At this point peak human is starting become an understatement. He's taking peak human and breaking those limits.

I think Captainrogers is trying to say that there is no "peak".

I'm sure it's there.
I'm just saying that you take whatever that MIGHT be and add a little extra because of that overall physiology.

I'm sure if you google peak human strength/limits, you might find some interesting factoids.
(Once you wade through the comic book stuff)

I think the MCU Captain America has the Ultimate Captain America power set. Hers is a summary of 1610 Captain America strength. Rogers's physical strength is enhanced to superhuman level. He is strong enough to lift at least 50 tons , and much more while under stresses. Nick Fury states that Steve can "bench-press a Toyota," he has been able to perform such feats as catching a easy 10 tons pine tree capable of crushing jeeps from falling on a group of soldiers, curling multiple tons effortlessly, physically bend metal with his bare hands and lifts 10+ rubbles plus car that would give dozers troubles

Cap is clearly more than just peak. His serum allowed him to stay preserved in ice for 70 years where he didn't age in all. In the first movie he said he can't get drunk and that the serum keeps him from getting drunk and puts him in like a constant state of healing.

In the comics, he's been seen bench pressing 1,200 pounds easy.

His strength is clearly more than that of any non-enhanced human on the planet.

Well ****. Super serum did alot more than I expected. :\

While I don't think he's anywhere near that 50 ton Ultimate level, he's definitely above that old 800 lb limit Marvel used to arbitrarily label as peak.
I like the balance they've struck.

Comics have frequently shown him lifting way more than 800 pounds. In the Avengers gym, he's blatantly lifting 1,100 1,200 pounds sometimes.

There are two points/reasons for that:
1. In the comics the limit is that he can run at about 70mph and he can lift 1500 lbs objects (I'm just estimating here so don't throw numbers at me), and his durability knows no bounds! and I really mean "no bounds" he jumped through bulletproof glass off of a Helicarrier and landed on a speeding F22 or something in CW issue #1 I think. Plus in the IW comic (the 90s one) he took some big punches and bounced right up.
Now I think 1500 pounds is right on the human peak chart but I'm sure human body does not have the theoretical capacity to run at such speeds so it's not like they keep it true to their word in the comics either.

2. In franchises like that you HAVE to go bigger and bigger (ie introduce a new aspect of the characters powers) for each movie in order to achieve higher stakes, if you go and watch all the MCU movies you'd realize everybody has had a power increase for each movie so thats not that weird

Well in the films, his body is durable enough that he can jump from a high altitude into water without dying and without a parachute.

My understanding is that when you fall into water from that type of height, it's comparable to falling on concrete.

Where did you get that 50 tons from.
He's 5+ tons but well below that 50 ton range.

Funny you remind me of Cap not being able to get drunk in TFA as I recall an issue of Cap in the early 80's were both he and Sam get drunk and walk home, only to get mugged and for Steve to use a trash-can lid as a projectile instead of his shield.

Anywhoo - yeah, Cap's clearly more than peak human. As said previously in this thread 616 Cap with Ultimate Cap power set.

And in the recent CW clip, he does the same thing onto actual concrete. Then kicks a car at a guy.

Well this certainly evens the playing field in Civil War, especially if Winter Soldier is equal to Cap in power levels.

True that. I mean we see Cap and Bucky knocking a man whose suit is made of titanium iron alloy around in the trailers.

Cap being a 'peak human' is a joke. He is clearly a low level super human.

Yup. Describing him as a peak human without superpowers is an absolute joke.

Agreed. Peak human isn't a thing in the mcu. He's not Spidey level but he's clearly superhuman.

My feeling is that with his enhanced mental faculties and inate talent Caps ultimate superpower is his tactical perfection. He has the instinctive ability to make the correct tactical move instantaneously. Every time.

I have a sinking feeling that, in terms of strength, in the MCU they will put him on the same level as Spidey, which as a longtime Marvel reader I disagree with vehemently, but will nevertheless come to accept as the consumer-driven sheep that I am.

I read that
Spidey outclasses him in a fight

Captain America should NOT be as fast and as strong as Spider-Man. Period. Where Cap excelles is his training as a solider; he's the better hand-to-hand fighter. The Marvel wiki lists them within these ranges:

Captain America - 800 lbs to 2 ton range

Spider-Man - 10 tons to 25 tons range
