Newsarama's got the first look at the colored pages. I don't care how bad The Return was, I can't pass this up.

It is tempting, mostly because what little I have read of Reed (his MS. MARVEL CW issues and naturally he co-writes THE ILLUMINATI, which is still Bendis' best book now) I have liked.

I'm just against the general idea of bringing a time-flung Capt. Marvel back forward in time. It just seems like a waste, and it reminds me of Decimation in a way; the X-Books took a year and a half to start to develop it (aside for X-FACTOR). Mar-Vell has been around half a year already or more, and nothing. It seems a bit late now for anyone to care.

Still, that kind of thinking kept me off CAPTAIN AMERICA for years, and it is Reed. If I hear some good buzz about it, I'll give it a try. Granted, I expect Reed to have it tie into MS. MARVEL, which I don't read.

Anyway, nice preview. Can Marvel overcome terrible first impressions with this revived franchise? And will there be a point besides, "Hey, let's resurrect Capt. Marvel, yet another hero best known for his death?"

Was there ever a reason given for Cap Marvel becoming a "man out of time" or should I expect that answer in the mini?

There was, but I forgot it. I completely blanked on THE RETURN.

Update edit: I looked it up; in CW: THE RETURN, written by Paul "I just ruined Speedball" Jenkins, Mar-Vell essentially fell through a hole in space-time and wound up in the future, where he is already dead. Of course, in the terms of how Marvel realities work he very well could be a Capt. Marvel from another reality, or his very enterance has now created a divergent reality, but so far they are running with the "man from the past who is destined to die" spin.

For the record, he returned in 1/07. He had a panel appearence as one hero out of a group battle pose in CIVIL WAR #7, which was 2/07; that act got ZERO reaction from ANYONE in that battle. So there has been a gap of 8-9 months before this launch. Really, is there ANY hype for this?

He died in 1983 and last had an ongoing in 1979. My question is still the same: "Why is this essential now!? And is it so good that it was worth jerking McDuffie around and allowing him to kill Gravity in BEYOND! for the purpose of making him the new Capt. Marvel only to backpeddle and force McDuffie to perform a convient, continuity adjusting resurrection in FF."

I may give it a chance if the reviews come in positive. It is a #1 issue; I am confident shops will overorder it and it will be available at least two weeks.

Reed seems to be going the route of ignoring his appearance in CW #7 and picking it up from where he left the 42 Prison.

Marvel has a podcast on this, and it really sheds light as to why The Return sucked so hard, as per Steve Wacker, that story was put together in like 15 minutes because they couldn't fit his return into the actual CW title. Common sense dictated that they should have scratched the title all together, but of course, there was money to be made.

Either way, Reed really sold me on this mini in that podcast, I suggest you all give it a listen.

Probably not a tie-in, but she will appear in the mini, she kind of has to, like seriously.

I really want to pass this up because the Return sucked so badly and because I really don't agree with his Ressurection.

But I have to and will pick it up. It does look good and I do love the character.

i wonder what his son is going to have to say about this, which reminds me him being alive is going to ruin the whole legacy thing with umm..whats his face.

Which son? The dead one, or the Skrully one?

I didn't actually know Genis was dead.

You learn something everyday.

Nah, he's coming back in AC.

Lawl, a quick Wiki search revelas that he's in limbo after Zemo did something and trapped him in some dimension separating him in several pieces and whatnot.

Marvel already got Christian comics out of their system.

I bet Jesus does, too.

Those pages have made me kind of want to buy the series for the first time. But in spite of Weeks, I'll stay away. Maybe if there were some indication that Mar-Vell would interact with his actual widow and children instead of just stupid Ms. Marvel, I'd reconsider. But if it's just Mar-Vell on Earth with Ms. Marvel doing the same **** he did back in the '70s, I stand by my initial thought that it will be uber-lame.

When Buddha dies and reincarnates, he'll upgrade to quantum bands. Then Jesus can get his nega-bands.
