There was, but I forgot it. I completely blanked on THE RETURN.
Update edit: I looked it up; in CW: THE RETURN, written by Paul "I just ruined Speedball" Jenkins, Mar-Vell essentially fell through a hole in space-time and wound up in the future, where he is already dead. Of course, in the terms of how Marvel realities work he very well could be a Capt. Marvel from another reality, or his very enterance has now created a divergent reality, but so far they are running with the "man from the past who is destined to die" spin.
For the record, he returned in 1/07. He had a panel appearence as one hero out of a group battle pose in CIVIL WAR #7, which was 2/07; that act got ZERO reaction from ANYONE in that battle. So there has been a gap of 8-9 months before this launch. Really, is there ANY hype for this?
He died in 1983 and last had an ongoing in 1979. My question is still the same: "Why is this essential now!? And is it so good that it was worth jerking McDuffie around and allowing him to kill Gravity in BEYOND! for the purpose of making him the new Capt. Marvel only to backpeddle and force McDuffie to perform a convient, continuity adjusting resurrection in FF."
I may give it a chance if the reviews come in positive. It is a #1 issue; I am confident shops will overorder it and it will be available at least two weeks.
