People are gonna get pissy about this, but real talk: I don’t think any adaptation has nailed it (as much as I enjoy DePalma’s movie).
King’s novel plays out almost like a true crime story, which got lost in the shuffle of DePalma’s high camp experience.
Well, if we're going to put it all out in the open, I don't really like the book. I think what could have been an effective novella got weighed down by a bunch of unnecessary and redundant news articles, which ties into the "true crime" aspect.
I think De Palma's version improved on it by not having those and giving it a better ending, if nothing else. I don't think it's the best adaptation that could be, and I was open to the Kimberly Pierce remake, but then Chloe Moretz looked too attractive in the trailers, and I just lost interest. I'm not saying good looking girls can't be bullied, but Carrie White is the iconic bullied high school girl, and I just couldn't see that being the definitive take.
Now with this, I don't see any reason for this to be a miniseries other than that they've already been down the movie road. And with the transgender/person of color angle, I get it, and if someone gets something out of that that's cool, but unless it's a person of color who's not that good looking or even overweight like in the book instead of just being bullied for being a person of color, then it doesn't sound like definitive Carrie to me and I just don't really care. I just personally don't need a "woke" alternate Carrie.
Also, how are you going to have a transgender Carrie with a crazy Christian mother? Unless Carrie was female at birth and hasn't come out as identifying as a boy.
That could work, but I don't think that's what they meant.
