I read the interview with Brian Fee, the director, and he says it's pretty much a similar real time thing a la Toy Story. Basically in 2006 he was a rookie in his 20s, now 10 years later he's like in his 30s. Like he can still play the game, but his knees may go out on occasion.

Well damn, that was quick. Basically it was an entire scene of

Lightning during his ill fated race and Armie hammer's character Jackson Storm taunting him about retirement. That pisses him off and he goes faster than he should've, causing the crash. Fade to black and the cars 3 logo.

Guess this will really be the Rocky Balboa of the Cars movies.

Also managed to find the leaked clip of the accident online. Don't know what it says about the movie as a whole, but that thing was better than the entirety of Cars 2.

Honestly the plot, while done before, could work if the execution is done right. This seems more of a sequel to the first Cars than Cars 2 ever was.

Cars 2 was just bad. Not sure who told Pixar that people wanted to see more of Mater than Lightning in a Cars sequel.
