Sorry if there is already a thread for this, had a little search and could only find a couple of similar threads for the first game so thought this should be ok.
Anyway I have just finished the game last night and it will easily go down as one of my top 5 games of all time now, so I thought who should play all these great characters if I was ever made in to a movie.
Arthur Morgan: Josh Brolin
This would definitely be the biggest casting choice of the game as the main protagonist you have to get someone who can pull of Arthur's loveable side but at the same time sell themselves as the tough enforcer outlaw that he starts off as as well. Think there is few ways you could go with this one but my personal choice would be Josh Brolin.
Dutch Van Der Linde: Jefferey Dean Morgan
After Arthur I would argue the most important casting is that of the leader of the gang Dutch, as he ties so closely in to Arthur and John's stories across two games and in this one we see him go from the mostly happy go lucky leader to making more and more decisions that he had previously told you should never be taken. This is hard one because you have to get someone who can be very charismatic but then extremely cruel at the drop of a hat, from his time as Neegan I think Jeffery Dean Morgan is a perfect fit.
Micah: Barry Pepper
The thorn in Arthur's side from pretty much there first encounter in the game to being revealed as the one who had sold out the gang to the Pinkerton's Micah is a great antagonist having you at King Joffrey levels of hate for him by games end, he also seems to be similarly aged to Arthur & Dutch, its definitely a similar role he's played before but because he was so good at it True Grit I would love to see Barry Pepper get more of a chance to flesh out his western antagonist.
Charles Smith: Winston Duke
While most characters at least once in this game yo-yo between good and bad Charles seems to be the one dependable character you can always trust to do the right thing, he's competent at everything he does and as we towards the end of the game he's a physical specimen as well and to help show that off I would pick Winston Duke to play him.
Sadie Adler: Lauren Cohan
Personally don't think there is a character who goes through more of a change throughout the game, when you first meet her being a scared new widow to the being transformed in to a bad*** gun slinging bounty hunter by games end, biggest thing about Sadie for me would be seeing that transition from delicate flower to thorny rose, my choice would be Lauren Cohan.
John Marston: Christian Bale
The main character of the first game John's past gets fleshed out so much more here as we see him start off this games as him being a rather selfish guy who doesn't care about his family that much to growing on his own throughout the game and because of Arthur till the point where by games end he is a totally changed family man. This one is massive as well as if they did a movie and it did well whoever played John would likely be returning for the sequel. So a big name that we know is good would be essential, can't think of a better fit than Christian Bale.
Abigail Roberts: Katie McGrath
Abigail is shown to be very protective of her son Jack and often clashes with John over the choices he makes in terms of him getting involved in things that could lead to his death, she eventually gets her happy ending even if its short lived getting their ranch and getting married to John. Katie McGarth would be my choice for this one she's consistently been great on Supergirl.
Jack Marston: Jacob Tremblay
As the only child in the gang Jack is pretty much the personification of innocence in the gang, Jack doesn't seem to have the same courage as John at least to begin with but is shown to be more of a intelligent kid always reading and also shown to be very shy. Jacob Tremblay would be my choice at just 13 he still looks like a young kid and already has plenty of big movie experience.
Hosea Matthews: Ed Begley Jr.
The wise old man and what seemed like the moral compass of the group, whoever plays Hosea has to give of that feeling of wisdom and a knowledge that only comes from his experiences and at the same time be handy in a fight, my choice would be Ed Begley Jr. as he's a great actor and is a believable 10 to 20 years older looking that Brolin & Morgan.
Uncle: James Cosmo
The unproductive elderly alcoholic of the group Uncle does so little in the game but at the same time still manages to be very memorable, especially in the epilogue missions as his character really gets a chance to shine, while I don't know what his American accent is like if he can nail it I think James Cosmo would be a perfect fit.
Pearson: Nick Offerman
The camp cook Pearson never really gets involved in the dirty criminal side of the gangs affairs he mostly sticks to his job as cook, he fits that fat, loud and jolly type of character you see in so many stories. Nick Offerman has the size and I could just see him in that type of role.
Bill Williamson: David Harbour
Although the change isn't really shown too much in game Bill is one of the most different characters from his appearance in RD1, here isn't quite the same extremely dangerous foe that he was in the first game but more of the big dumb thug of the group. Its a role that if a sequel was ever considered would be a lot more important so I think a decent sized name would be possible someone like David Harbour seems like he'd be good for this.
Susan Grimshaw: Jane Lynch
If Dutch is the father of the group Ms Grimshaw is the mother, she is very firm with everyone but is seen as the one who keeps the camp running and looking after the gang day to day. Even though she appears cold she does care in her own way and although never stated I always assumed Grimshaw was the oldest of the women in the gang. Known more for her comedy roles I think Jane Lynch could shine in a role like this.
Mary-Beth Gaskill: Rose Leslie
Appearing as though butter wouldn't melt in her mouth Mary-Beth is actually considered one of the best criminals there is but considers the gang like family. Also another lucky one to make it out of the gang before its eventual implosion. An actress that just pops in to my head for her would be Rose Leslie, don't really know why.
Reverend Swanson: Dominick West
A fallen man of god who's turned to drink, women and drugs Swanson is actually one of the few characters who show's growth throughout the game eventually sobering up, while he isn't the most important character in the gang seeing that growth could be interesting, I went with Dominick West just because I felt like there was a small similarity.
Karen Jones: Christina Hendricks
With a good few male alcoholics already in the group Karen covers that basis for the women after Sean dies falling further and further in to despair as the game goes on, its sad as her personality earlier in the game was so much more bold and fun. Described as slightly older bustier woman than Tilly or Mary-Beth I would go with Christina Hendricks for this role.
Lenny Summers: Tyler James Williams
Another character who was taken away that really put you in a downer, while not a joker like Sean Lenny throughout the game always felt helpful, nice and fun-loving. Lenny is stated as being a young man so I think you need someone late 20's tops. Tyler James Williams would be my pick.
Sean MacGuire: Domhnall Gleeson
No matter how much Arthur finds him annoying Sean came off as one of the most charismatic members of the gang the few missions you get to do with him and for me was one of the saddest deaths. Casting for this one is easy for me got to go with Domhnall Gleeson as he's Irish and go look at him in the game they are basically twins.
Javier Escuella: Diego Luna
This was an interesting one for me because despite going on to be one of the main villians of RD 1 Javier is actually pretty likeable for most of this game only in the final third as Dutch goes more of the rails does he but even then so he does so reluctantly. Diego Luna is my choice as he's a Mexican actor so will be authentic and has some great acting chops as well obviously.
Leopold Strauss: Bob Balaban
This one was pretty easy for me, Strauss is one of the most unlikable characters in the game using everyone else to do his dirty work, it says a lot about him in a game full of people shooting each other a money lender can come off as one of the most despicable, casting wise I have to go with Bob Balaban the resemblance is uncanny.
Molly O'Shea: Kerry Condon
Dutch's woman, Molly is shown to not really like the life of the gang its made to seem she had previously lived a higher class lifestyle as she looks down her nose at the other women, she also has one of the most unfortunate deaths in the game. Kerry Condon would be my pick as she's a good actress, she's Irish and I could see her nailing the look.
Tilly Jackson: Keke Palmer
While Tilly doesn't get the most to do or have the most impact on the story she is one of the few characters who seems to be a good sweet person and although I cant remember it ever being stated I always assumed she was one of the youngest in the gang after jack obviously. Keke Palmer would be my choice as she's a really good actress at 26 seems like the right sort of age for Tilly.
Josiah Trelawny: Timothy Omundson
Josiah seems like an odd member of the gang, far more fashionable, flamboyant and silver tongued than any of the other members but always looking out for himself Trelawny, being one of the first to get out of the gang before things truly go south, you need some one who can pull of the cool suave and sophisticated feel that Josiah has. I would go with Timothy Omundson the dude just looks like he was born to play a part in a western story.
Those are my picks anyway, look forward to hearing yours.
