So when are we getting a Wolfenstein movie?! How would you do it?

Personally, since the subject is a somewhat real historical occurance, I'd treat it with as much respect as possible. Shot like Saving Private Ryan, with the horror aspect like Omen or The Exorcist.

Anyways, I remember reading about id wanting to make a movie version, but haven't heard anything since. What do you guys and gals think?

It should be based on Return to Castle Wolfenstein. Soldiers, zombies, cyborgs, oh my!

Isn't this a video game movie that is about to get made by Paul W.S. Anderson (my fav director btw)?

http://imdb.com/title/tt0488982/

Paul W.S Anderson is directing Castlevania.

As for Castle Wolfenstein, who knows who will be directing it, I hope they get a good writer and director.

I can't find a imdb.com page for the movie. Does the movie has a studio backing it...or is it independent?

I don't think it's gone into production yet, all i've heard is that they're thinking of a castle wolfenstein movie, well, I heard this awhile ago anyways.

Return to Castle Wolfenstein was just a remake of Wolfernstein 3D, ala Doom 3 being a remake of the first one...in fact, RTCW had a bit of the original CW thrown into the beginning as well...so it would probably be the one the got the story from, seeing as it covered all the bases and fleshed out the story a bit

The premise of Castle Wolfenstein would make for a pretty crappy movie.

how so? Hitler really did have an entire branch of his military devoted to studying the supernatural, so having a lone special ops soldier (or a small unit of them as the movie would probably do) have to fight nazi-zombie-cyborgs be a bad premise?

Well, in my estimation the Wolfenstein material isn't really that much compelling, even if Hitler did have an entire branch of his military devoted to the study of the supernatural. A lone soldier or an elite unit fighting against nazi-zombie-cyborgs and other assorted paranoral threats? Sounds cheesy as hell.

It depends on the execution of the idea. Look at Hellboy, that wasnt cheesy.

Well the Return To Castle Wolfenstein game tried to execute the idea in a serious way, but it still came off as a bit of a self-parody. Haven't seen Hellboy so I wouldn't know.

OH GOD are you serious? I think that's actually WORSE than Bay directing a Transformers movie!

And RTCW was an awesome game, esp. multiplayer.

How dare ye! You should be uber-axed by Lord Heinrich!

If handled with TLC the movie could be an awesome experience. Could you imagine Saving Private Ryan mixed with The Exorcist or Day of The Dead?! That would be pure awesomeness.

Like I said, sounds pure cheesiness. But then again, that's just me.

It would be like the opening sequence of Hellboy stretched over two hours...

Heck, why not, I'd watch that.

Yea, hopefully a studio will pick it up soon and get some good writers.

There is a Sci-Fi movie called SS Doomtrooper that kind of reminds me of Castle Wolfenstein.

Yeah, I remember seeing previews of SS Doomtrooper for the Sci-Fi channel. Never did watch it, but it looked interesting.

Roger Avary Helming Castle Wolfenstein
Source: Variety
August 3, 2007

Producer Samuel Hadida has secured the rights to the video game "Return to Castle Wolfenstein," with Roger Avary attached to write and direct the adaptation of the ID Software property.

The project reteams Avary with Hadida after he wrote the company's video game adaptation, Silent Hill.

The WWII-set "Return to Castle Wolfenstein" revolves around U.S. Army Ranger B.J. Blazkowicz, who leads a team of agents into Castle Wolfenstein in order to investigate the Nazis' SS Paranormal Division.

Hadida's becoming a prolific producer of video game adaptations, with Resident Evil: Extinction, the third and final installment in the franchise, bowing Sept. 21. A sequel to Silent Hill is planned. He also has Onimusha in the works with Christophe Gans attached to direct.

Avary most recently adapted Robert Zemeckis' take on Beowulf, which Paramount opens Nov. 16. He previously penned Pulp Fiction, The Rules of Attraction and Killing Zoe.

"I've been playing the character of B.J. Blazkowicz since the epic 'Wolfenstein 3D' first bruised my brain and have ever since wanted to bring his adventures to life on the bigscreen," Avary said. "It's time to bust some dams, storm some bunkers and blow up some bridges."

Wolfenstein Movie Update
Avary's script reportedly due soon.
by Jim Vejvoda

US, August 4, 2008 - Progress on the long-in-development game-to-film Return to Castle Wolfenstein is expected once screenwriter Roger Avary turns in his screenplay adaptation, which will reportedly happen soon.

In a chat with Eurogamer, id Software CEO Todd Hollenshead said, "With the writer's strike it took so long to get underway and Roger Avary, the writer, had a commitment that was in line before working the Wolfenstein stuff, but I've recently been in contact with Roger and he's actually working on the script right now."

Hollenshead added, "There's some contract provisions and if they don't have certain things done within a certain period of time they can't just sit on the rights forever and not use them."

Avary was hired last summer to write and direct Wolfenstein for Davis Films, but he was arrested in January under the suspicion of manslaughter and driving under the influence in a car accident that killed one of his passengers.

I've always wanted a movie based on wolfenstein, it could be cool if made in the style of hellboy.

Return to Castle Wolfenstein could end up an interesting film, and it shold have some of the style of helboy, burton's films and evil dead. However it could be serious too.

I could see Neal McDonough as the lead
