I bet Peter will dodge out to fight Green Goblin, thus leaving MJ without a date in the middle of the formal. So he'll lose his opportunity with her, and maybe he'll try to pursue Gwen again. Just a hypothesis.

That's Very possible, but I don't think he'll pursue Gwen again. Atleast not yet.
