Chandor's "Triple Frontier"

I haven't seen Chandor's work.
But both A violent Year and Margin Call sound interesting .
Add Hanks and Smith, and we have a movie .

Chandor is great. Will have to keep an eye on this.

Come on, Smith, you need a comeback to serious dramatic roles. The man is a fantastic actor, I just want him to showcase it again - like he did in Pursuit of Happiness and Ali.

That's where Im at.

Even though it's not a full drama, I think Suicide Squad is a big step in the right direction if it's as intense and "alley" as everyone keeps saying it is

He also has "Concussion" later this Fall. He's definitely trying to be better with his choices.

Forgot about that.

I expect that to be decent but nothing special.

Not gonna lie my hopes were higher when this was Bigelow and Will Smith. Thank you outdated thread title. :(

J.C. Chandor closes deal to direct "Triple Frontier" for Paramount http://bit.ly/1KT1kJ7

After reports suggested J.C. Chandor was circling the Paramount action-thriller “Triple Frontier,” sources close to the project have confirmed that the “A Most Violent Year” helmer has closed a deal to direct the pic.Mark Boal penned the screenplay with Charles Roven and Alex Gartner of Atlas Entertainment producing.

The film is set in the notorious border zone between Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil where the Iguazu and Parana rivers converge — making “la triple frontera” difficult to monitor and a haven for organized crime.

Kathryn Bigelow was originally eyed to helm the movie, but after she decided to direct “Zero Dark Thirty” first, the film got shelved and she eventually left the project.

The studio will next try and lock in the large ensemble that it has wanted for the film. Sources say Will Smith is interested in starring and the dialogue ongoing, but negotiations have not yet begun between the two sides.

Mr. Boring McBoringpants? Eh. This guy is not a patch on Bigelow honestly.

A Most Violent Year was outstanding, so I don't see this as much of a downgrade.

Johnny Depp eyes South American crime thriller "Triple Frontier" (EXCLUSIVE) http://bit.ly/1QfDrRk

Johnny Depp may be returning to the dark corners of the smuggling world, this time in South America. Sources tell Variety that while a deal is still far away, the “Black Mass” actor is in early talks to star in Paramount’s crime thriller “Triple Frontier.”
The studio had no comment.

Depp, who recently earned a SAG nomination for playing mobster Whitey Bulger in “Black Mass,” hasn’t yet committed to the project but is said to be engaged again in the organized crime thriller. The actor initially showed interest in the script when Kathryn Bigelow (“Zero Dark Thirty”) was involved. J.C. Chandor (“A Most Violent Year”) is now directing the film.

The long-gestating project, an ensemble thriller, also has an offer out to Tom Hanks.

Will Smith recently passed on a different role.

Bigelow’s producing partner Mark Boal wrote the script with Charles Roven and Alex Gartner of Atlas Entertainment producing.

About the Triple Frontier:

- How long has that area been a haven for organized crime? If it was the last 30 years, then okay it may be the home of Islamic terrorists. If it has been a haven since the 1920's or 1930's, I am surprised no Nazis escaped into that area after the war ended.

Tom Hardy and Channing Tatum Eyeing J.C. Chandor’s Crime Thriller ‘Triple Frontier’
Channing Tatum and Tom Hardy are in early talks to star in Paramount’s action thriller “Triple Frontier,” sources tell Variety.

Sources indicate the deals are still being worked out as scheduling conflicts are issues for all parties involved. The studio has shown interest in the two actors since last month and while conversations have progressed, its far from being a done deal for both.

J.C. Chandor is on board to direct the pic. Charles Roven and Alex Gartner of Atlas Entertainment are producing. The film is set in the notorious border zone between Paraguay, Argentina, and Brazil where the Iguazu and Parana rivers converge — making “la triple frontera” difficult to monitor and a haven for organized crime.

The pic was originally suppose to be writer Mark Boal and director Kathryn Bigelow’s follow-up to “The Hurt Locker,” with every actor from Tom Hanks to Will Smith to Leonardo DiCaprio at one point showing interest in joining the ensemble. “Triple Frontier” was put on hold when Bigelow and Boal decided to move on to “Zero Dark Thirty,” with Bigelow eventually removing herself from the director’s chair to focus on other priorities.

Hardy can be seen next in FX’s “Taboo.” He is repped by CAA.

Tatum was most recently seen in the Coen Brothers’ “Hail, Caesar!” and just wrapped production on “Kingsman: The Golden Circle” and Steven Soderbergh’s “Logan Lucky.”

As one of three people who watched (and liked) A Most Violent Year, I can say that I'm in.

I watched it. Margin Call too. They where cinematic ambien to me.

I hope that Chandler gets Oscar Isaac for a role; maybe the role that Javier Bardem was considered for back in the day.

Mahershala Ali (“Moonlight,” “Luke Cage”) has joined the cast of J.C. Chandor’s “Triple Frontier” set in the border zone between Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil.
Tom Hardy and Channing Tatum are also attached to the ensemble crime and terrorism thriller which was once a Kathryn Bigelow effort which is why it still boasts a script by “Zero Dark Thirty” scribe Mark Boal.
Boal, Charles Roven and Alex Gartner will produce. Ali is currently shooting Robert Rodriguez’s “Alita: Battle Angel”.

Still wish Will Smith was attached. But cast is still great

Paramount Drops JC Chanor’s ‘Triple Frontier;’ Channing Tatum, Tom Hardy Also Out http://deadline.com/2017/04/triple-frontier-paramount-cancels-channing-tatum-tom-hardy-mahershala-ali-1202068670?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter …

EXCLUSIVE: I have been hearing that things have been going sideways the past few days on Paramount’s Triple Frontier, and now I’ve confirmed that Paramount has dropped out of the drama that JC Chandor was supposed to start production on next month. Channing Tatum and Tom Hardy are also officially out. Given how hard it is to mount adult-themed feature films in this marketplace, this is terrible news. Tatum and Hardy have been set for some time, and they recently added Oscar winning Moonlight star Mahershala Ali for the Mark Boal-scripted thriller set in the notorious border zone between Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil where the Iguazu and Parana rivers converge. This is the film that Katherine Bigelow once planned to direct, and which at one time Tom Hanks and Will Smith and Johnny Depp circled, so it has its fans. The pic is being produced by Charles Roven and Alex Gartner.

I had heard earlier that Chandor turned in a rewrite that Tatum and Hardy didn’t love, and they were teetering. Unclear if either is still in the project, but sources said that for Paramount, this project was being done on a tight schedule and for a price, and that once creative differences imperiled that goal, and requests were made for more extensive changes, the studio today declined to move forward.

There is also the added element that the studio has had a changeover at the top, and this one was championed by Brad Grey, who’s not there any more. These kinds of things happen. The filmmaker will regroup and hopefully re-mount it, with a different cast, at a later time. Will tell you more when I know it.

But up Ali to lead and cast someone else dope.

I still wish Smith was doing this to switch things up

Wow, cinematic ***** killer.

Well can't they just drop Tatum and Hardy, lower the budget, keep Ali, Cho, and Luna and then nab two more lesser known but great actors?

They could but that trio wouldn't sell much to audiences. Mahershala Ali won an Oscar I know but to general audiences he's still an unknown. This project at one point had DiCaprio, Will Smith and Johnny Depp circling at the same time. To go from them names to Tatum, Hardy, Cho etc is a big downgrade.
