What comic book movie characters had a bad start in film, but have been redeemed later?

Also what disgraced characters need to get another chance?

Without question #1 has to be Captain America. From Matt Salinger to Chris Evans.

Dr. Doom is the character I'd like to see be redeemed the most.

From top of my head, redeemed:
-Captain America;
-Bane;
-Hulk;
-Two-Face.

Needs it:
-Mr. Freeze;
-Poison Ivy;
-Penguin;
-Robin;
-Doctor Doom (and entire Fantastic Four for that matter);
-Joker (after Suicide Squad).

Not what most would say, but for me, Spider-Man (Maguire -> Garfield).

I'd really like to see a good Poison Ivy.

At least Joker had two good Silver Screen showings before Suicide Squad, its easy to redeem him.

I am going to say characters that I think were redeemed are Deadpool, Daredevil, Elektra and Punisher. I think Marvel characters who got to be great on the Netflix TV shows count.

I would like to see Superman be great again, I have never seen a great version of Lex Luthor in the movies. I wish I could see a great version of Doom in the future. I also wish to see good versions of Ghost Rider and Green Lantern.

spider-man from garfield to Holland.

Doom and the fantastic four need to get their due. They're so much better than the schlock we've gotten.

Bane
Captain America
Deadpool
Hulk
Sabretooth
Two-Face

I thought Liev Schreiber was pretty good. Or at least one of the best parts of a bad movie.

Already had redemption:

Bane
Deadpool
Gwen Stacy

Need new versions:

Mandarin
Baron Zemo
Venom
Wonder Woman
Lex Luthor
Parallax
Swamp Thing

Successfully redeemed:

Deadpool
Colossus
Bane
Two-Face

Wouldn't mind a new take:

Superman
Ultron
Emma Frost
Rogue
Catwoman
Storm
Mystique
Silver Samurai
Lois Lane

In desperate need of another chance:

Batgirl
Doctor Doom
The Fantastic Four
Lex Luthor
Poison Ivy
Venom
Mr. Freeze

Colossus and Dead pool!

Psylocke should join the list soon!

Successfully redeemed:

Colossus
Did he really need redemption?
Barely appearing doesn't require redemption to me.

In desperate need of another chance:

Batgirl
Doctor Doom
The Fantastic Four
Lex Luthor
Poison Ivy
Mr. Freeze
Scratch Venom out, he doesn't need a second chance.
I agree with mostly everything else.

REDEEMED

Well, Captain America (from the crap movies of the 70's, 80's and 90's to arguably two of the best cbms ever with TWS and CW).

Totally, Batman (from Batman and Robin to Batman Begins and then the Dark Knight, the pinnacle of cbms IMO).

Two-Face, from an utterly terrible performance by Tommy Lee Jones, redeemed by Aaron Eckhart in TDK - a performance for which he doesn't get near enough credit !

NEED A SECOND CHANCE....

Fantastic Four: once they were Marvel's greatest superhero team, rivalled only by the X-Men (sorry Avengers) and the first family of comic books. Their stories crossed space and time, and other dimensions. Their supporting cast is second to none (I mean, Galactus and the Silver Surfer are arguably FF supporting characters).
During John Byrne's run their stories could be fun, heartwarming, chilling, exciting and tragic - sometimes all within a single storyline.

What I'm saying is that they have suffered a terrible decline, in part due to mediocre (I didn't mind the 2005 and 2007 films, but they ain't great) and terrible films that have damaged their brand with the GA.

To be honest, I think an FF movie could be another GOTG, a film that's about family. They really, really, really need a great movie to elevate them to the heights they deserve.

I mean, I'm a serious DC fan, but I have always respected and enjoyed the FF.....except in the cinema.

Green Lantern, I mean come on, one of DC's best characters and one who has literally limitless potential for story telling as an intergalactic cop - could be the Star Trek of DC. Ruined by a mediocre at best movie.

Doctor Doom, one of Marvel's greatest villains, an archetypal bad guy with tons of charm - I mean the guy talks about himself in the 3rd person, how badass is that ? Ruined by Julian McMahon and then utterly ruined by Toby Kebbell (and of course a terrible film).

Mr Freeze: okay, in a garbage movie, well I thought that Arnold's terrible puns were actually the one thing in keeping with the spirit of the film and as such didn't bug me that much. Still, Freeze could get much better service.

Venom and Sandman...well, don't really need to explain that one do I ?

Lex Luthor: When the most recent version makes Gene Hackman's 1978 antics look amazing, well ****.....

Tom Holland redeem Spider-Man after Andrew Garfield.

Dude, IMO it wasn't Garfield that made those movies sub-par. In ASM, I thought that Maguire was better, but in ASM 2 I thought Garfield really grew into the role - he and Emma Stone had some good chemistry (although I hated that lame graduation speech) but the rest of the movie was pretty bad.

IMO Tom Holland has made a great start as Spider-Man, but unless the rest of the cast and the story are worth watching, well...... it ain't gonna be a good film.

Having seen the trailer, clearly Keaton's got the right vibe as Vulture (unlike Jamie Foxx as Electro or Dane Dehaan as Goblin) but the story has to be decent too.

To be honest, I don't think there's really been a decent Spider-Man villain since Doctor Octopus ( I really loved Willem Dafoe as Green Goblin too).

What I'm saying is, it will take more than just Tom Holland to redeem Spidey - but he certainly is a good start.

Well, as always that's just my opinion.

Cheers.

In desperate need of another chance:

Batgirl
Doctor Doom
The Fantastic Four
Lex Luthor
Poison Ivy
Venom
Mr. Freeze

That's a good point. I'm not the biggest fan of the character, but when I think back to B&R, it's easy for me to understand that her fanbase deserves better.

Venom needs another chance, badly.

I think that the Hulk has been redeemed since his two solo films, thanks to the Avengers (2012).

Another one is Vampirella. Her books have too much history to have only been adapted once, in low budget fashion, 20 years ago.

They adapted Vampirella? I never knew that.

Speaking of stuff that was popular in the early 90s, I wish I could go back in time and prevent the Barb Wire movie from ever being made. Dark Horse, for a very brief moment, created a compelling superhero universe with their (poorly named) Comics Greatest World characters and then I think that movie played a big role in flushing it down the f***ing toilet. That's not to say a (good) Barb Wire movie starring someone other than Pamela Anderson couldn't have worked, but if they wanted to make a film, they should have gone with their most popular and best character, X. Unfortunately they didn't, and ultimately X and all the other characters were forgotten. They tried to revive them recently but it didn't pan out.

Oh what might have been.

Bane, Two Face, Catwoman (after Halle Berry), Sabretooth, Spider-Man (after Andrew Garfield), and Deadpool have all been redeemed.
