Charlie Kaufman Adapting YA Series Chaos Walking

YEah I saw the leak trailer.
True it looked bad but the only thing that makes it seem terrible is the cast involved. If this was full of medium level talent I wouldn't bat an eye.

The look of it reminds me of The 5th Wave.

This was just a weird movie to make. They started filming in 2017, 2 years after The Hunger Games ended, a year after Divergent went left field, and the same year Maze Runner was supposed to end before Dylan O Brien's injury. Everyone moved on or was in the process of moving on from the whole dystopian YA type thing. Even involving 2 rising stars like Ridley and Holland seemed like a really weird move

Do even Tom and Daisy care about this anymore considering they filmed it three years ago by this point? They probably figured a while ago it was never coming out and wrote it off as a waste of time on their filmographies.

I remember a blind item a LONG time ago about Daisy Ridley apparently being embarassed by Tom Holland's acting in this movie, and after seeing him in The Devil All The Time I find it kind of hard to believe, so for that, I'm interested in the trailer, whenever it drops.

Unless he just really couldn’t connect with his character and/or material in this (which is possible given the goofy-sounding premise), that sounds unlikely. The Devil All The Time proved Tom can handle himself as a serious actor beyond just “Spidey-Boy”.

In fact, thus far between The Impossible and The Devil All The Time, he’s proven himself more than Daisy Ridley has.

Ridley is probably about par with Holland but hasn't gotten the chance to show it yet. Devil All the Time is very, very bad and Holland isn't great in it but there are a lot of great actors in that movie giving flat, lifeless performances - it's really only Jason Clarke, Pattinson and Melling who clearly realize the movie they're in is a goofy slog and are livening things up by devouring the scenery.

Holland is a very good actor who might even become a great actor over his career, though.

Also, I know these books are supposed to be great but how the hell did Kaufman wind up writing this? Not saying it's beneath him or anything stupid like that, just that I would think he'd think it was beneath him.

Bring on a trailer interested to see what’s become of this one.

She was made to gawp at Tom Holland's naked hairy butt cheeks. No wonder she was embarrassed. Probably a take up with Doug Limen than Tom.

Pretty much comes off like your average generic YA sci fi wannabe franchise with a goofy premise. I feel like it’ll be no better or worse than the other stuff like this we’ve seen before.

I'm not sure whether to read into the fact that Tom usually is proudly hyping up his new movies on his Instagram and hasn't posted anything about this at all :funny:

Then again, he and Daisy filmed this like three years ago by this point, so they probably wrote it off already.

I think we can all agree Mads Mikkelsen deserves better than this

I like Holland, he seems like a cool kid. But this is basically Peter Parker in a post apocalyptic setting.

I wondered if this was actually based on a YA book, because it felt very, very much like it was....
