Chris Hemsworth Stars "In The Heart Of The Sea"

They should've kept the movie where it belonged: In the Spring. I still don't understand why they moved it, and they chose to move it right before Star Wars.

I believe it still would have flopped in the Spring, maybe not as hard but it wouldn't have been anything resembling a hit.

Furthermore I don't get Howard and Hemsworth as a directing/acting duo. It just doesn't fit. He's not Hemsworth Scorsese no matter how badly Hemsworth wants him to be.

I don't get Howard as a director. It seemed like he was in the same league as Spielberg and Zemeckis back in the day, and now he's the most unreliable director in the biz. He'll do a great movie once in a while, but then the rest is just..meh at best.

That's why I'm happy he's not doing The Dark Tower.

Always thought Howard was a vanilla director. Nothing worse than a vanilla director in my opinion.

I liked what he did with the Grinch
It wasn't accurate at all but it was fun watching Carrey adlib

Another flop for Hemsworth.

He can't seem to hit success outside of "Thor" and the Marvel era.

Ragnarok better be a hit.

On the other side. WB is going to pressure "Batman V Superman" even more

Howard did A Beautiful Mind and will always get a chance from me on that basis. That movie is just remarkable.

He needs a hit outside of Thor. I think The Huntsman: Winter's War being a hit is more important.

Maybe something colourful and weird like The Dark Tower would have been just what he needed to get his juices flowing.

Based on the concept art I'd seen - I'm not sure of that.

Seeing Thor being the Marvel franchise with the least oomph, Blackhat failing completely, Rush being nothing to write home about and now this... is it time for Hollywood to reconsider Hemsworth as a leading man? He's charming and likable and hot, but something just isn't working here. Maybe this is why he's being put in comedy roles.

Honestly, I wouldn't risk it on him. I'm actually interested in what this other guy will do with the franchise.

Man, Hemsworth hasn't had a good year.

Blackhat
Avengers: Age of Ultron
Vacation
In the Heart of the Sea

2016 is going to be even rougher with The Huntsman and probably Ghostbusters.

Even with a great premise and excellent marketing I think Hemsworth's issue outside of Thor is that he looks like a Greek god so it's hard for people to buy him in semi regular guy roles. That's a hurdle that he is going to have to get over. It's not impossible for him to but he's going to have to do really well in a role where he isn't the hot dude.

Yeah, that box office of over $1 billion.... real rough.

Vacation also made more than three times it's budget, so that wasn't so bad.

Hemsoworth has about as much charisma as Pratt, they both can self deprecate, don't take **** too serious, yet the latter became the media darling. I think going the comedic hero route may be the best route for Chris.

Age of Ultron was a smash, no doubt about it. Vacation did underperform even though it made a profit, but he only had a cameo role in it so it was neither a win nor a loss for him.

The marketing for this film was weird.

I'm quite convinced most people thought this film was supposed to be an actual adaption of Moby Dick.

I disagree. Pratt out-charisma's Hemsworth by a galaxy. Pratt's also naturally funny and likable and this really comes across in most of his interviews. [YT]hABw4xz0iMs[/YT]

Also Hemsworth hasn't had a terrible year, more of a mixed bag of a year.

I think Hemsworth has a lot of charisma

I'm not yet in love with Pratt like everyone else is but I think he could go further than Hemsworth because he has more of a regular guy feel and look. He's hot but it's not in the same way Hemsworth is.

I think Pratt gets more respect for actually being able to bulk up and go shclubby so easily. Those first seasons of Parks and Rec he was a straight up slob, lol. Hemsworth came on the scene looking like an Frank Frazetta painting so dudes are like, I can't relate.

Every person I've mentioned the film to have thought it was an adaption of Moby Dick which they had zero interest in.

The studio never should have connected this to Moby Dick in the marketing. It's not like a 19th century book is a big box office draw nor is anyone pining for a Moby dick adaption so the decision to connect this to Moby dick is a bit baffling. Hermin Melville isn't even in the book the film is based on. And the story wasn't recounted to him. He read about it in Owen Chase's book "Narrative of the Most Extraordinary and Distressing Shipwreck of the Whale-Ship Essex".

The film didn't even need a framing device.
