Chuck Dixon leaves DC

Someone finally noticed that he un-****ted Robin. You know DC wasn't gonna stand for that.

Stay tuned for Robin's new writer, whose first plotline will feature Steph's brutal rape and murder. Which will be her fault for walking around askin' for it like the dirty ****e she is.

I was so excited for his upcoming work. Dixon on Robin seemed like a godsend.

Damnit. *forgets notion of putting Robin back on pull-list*

Marvel can have em if DC gets Brubaker back. :o:cmad:

He said in there one of the main reasons is income and he's not getting enough from DC.

So he's going to write some simpsons comics and write for a company I've never heard of to fix it.

Right.

Both Dixon and DC declined to respond to Newsarama inquires for further comment. In a post on his messageboard in response to how the decrease in workload affects his income, Dixon responded with, “Even when I don’t work for DC they provide the bulk of my income,” referring to royalty payments for reprints and collections of his work (and presumably characters he created) that are kept in print.

Dixon’s upcoming work includes Simpsons Comics #142 - #144, the currently running Frankenstein: Prodigal Son adaptation at Dabel Brothers, Big Badz at Platinum, and will be reprinting some of his own material under his own imprint, Bruno Books.

Basically what I got out of it.

That says pretty much the opposite of what you seem to think it says.

Kinda sorta. It also says that he's had a decreased workload there, royalties and whatnots don't last forever.

I still say it's largely an income thing. It's always a money thing.

I think royalties do last forever if the characters he created are still in use and the stories he wrote are still being reprinted. And a lot of both his characters and his stories are.

Rights on exclusive characters (one's he created) last something like 50years, at which time they're thrown in public domain unless otherwise noted.

But I mean, we don't really even know how much his royalities are, or how much he even gets paid.

Hell, I don't know how much any comic writer gets paid, or even how they get paid. All I know is royalities and things like that wear down, very rapidly after a certain point.

I mean, unless the guy has an omnibus or something, you know -- something that's going to sell well for the next 20 years -- I doubt wholeheartliy that he's gonna see much cash from all his royalities and creations 15-20 years down the road.

Nothing. I'm just saying, when people leave companies like that in such a 'private' way, its normally largely a money discrpency between the two parties.

But him leaving then going to do his own thing doesn't seem like a smart idea, if it is a money issue.

Although, I didn't realize all the work he did on Batman until I just wikied it. They should release a Chuck Dixon collection with all those huge crossovers he did. I'd buy it.

Yeah, that's what I meant about his collections. He's responsible for pretty much the bulk of Tim Drake's development, plus he's done work all over the rest of Batman's corner of the DC universe.

I guess you could be right about it being a money thing, but I would bet it's more like creative differences. He wouldn't be the first writer pushed away by DC's current restructuring. Everything's in flux and he may not have liked the directions DC's higher-ups were telling him his comics had to move in.

Given how well Dixon's been handling Steph's return and DC's current love of ****ty stories, I could see that.

Robin has been my favorite book recently :(
