Cinematographer Donald McAlpine, whose inventive lensing of Baz Luhrmann's "Moulin Rouge!" earned an Oscar nomination in 2002, will receive the American Society of Cinematographers' international achievement award at the 23rd annual ASC Outstanding Achievement Awards on Feb. 15 at the Century Plaza Hotel in Century City.

His roughly 50 film credits include "Patriot Games," "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" and upcoming "X-Men Origins: Wolverine."

McAlpine is the first Australian to receive this ASC honor.

ASC president Daryn Okada said, "Don McAlpine is an innovative filmmaker who approaches each film with an invigorating vision that is always a refreshing exemplification of the art of visual storytelling."

The first thing I felt was different and appealing of this new trailer was the cinematography. Especially in the first opening shots.
