Clive Barker remaking HELLRAISER!

It's all so premature.
I wonder when we'll get an update and Clive will be starting on the script.

What I'm wondering about is what the remake will really be based on. Is it a remake of Hellraiser, or is it a new adaptation of The Hellbound Heart?

October 23: Clive Barker talks new HELLRAISER

HELLRAISER fans spent their weekend in either a state of dribbling puzzlement or utter elation following last Friday’s announcement of a new Pinhead film. If you’re now catching up, to sum up the drama in one word: remake. Yes, Dimension is moving ahead with a redux of the ’87 film, and Clive Barker is back to pen the update (for his reasons, see that news item). Fango happened to catch up to the man last night during the Screamfest Awards dinner (where Barker accepted a Lifetime Achievement nod, pictured above), where he also revealed that his latest novel, THE SCARLET GOSPELS (which will chronicle Pinhead’s demise), is now weighing in at 3,000-plus pages.

With a definitive end to this project in sight soon enough, where does that leave room for Barker to pen that new HELLRAISER—especially with so many other irons in the fire? “When I’m done with GOSPELS, I’ll begin writing HELLRAISER 1 while I’m doing the paintings for ABARAT part three,” Barker laughs, the insanity of such an undertaking not lost on him. “I just wouldn’t be at peace with myself if I gave this [remake] writing gig to somebody else, and I’ve always had in the back of my head what I wanted to do. There are things which are going into the movie which I’ve had tucked in my brain for years.

“I haven’t talked to anybody else [involved in the original] about this,” he adds, instantly answering those fans pondering Doug “Pinhead” Bradley’s place in the new film. “I’m going to write it and see how it goes. I’m hoping Doug will be back [but] this will be a different Pinhead.” That said, will the new HELLRAISER reflect any themes, characters or events revealed in GOSPELS? “Oh yeah, of course!” Barker teases. “Do you really think I wouldn’t do that?” —Ryan Rotten

I was just getting ready to post this new news when I happened upon this post. I certainly hope that Doug Bradley will come back to reprise the role of Pinhead. I also hope that the original Chatterer (but slightly updated) is used. The good thing that will come out of this is that the cenobites will get some new updated costumes & won't have to wear the crappy suits they wore in the straight to dvd Hellraiser sequels. If Doug does decide to come back then maybe he could use this time to get back into shape, maybe it was the suit & the make-up but he got to looking pudgey in the straight to dvd movies. It would be great if Clive could use some of the Tortured Souls as cenobites but they deserve their own movie.

Will Clive give use enough Cenobite action to avoid Hellraiser 4 type problems were they didn't use enough Pinhead & they had to reshoot most all the movie to include more Pinhead? Will he be able to make them scary & creepy again?

Bump (just because someone started a new thread) :p

Apparently Pinhead will be in white. Not sure I dig that.
Could be sexy...maybe not.

Yeah, I remember reading that too. I think it might have been in that interview I gave you the link for a few days back from IGN.com. It's recent and in it Barker says he won't be writing or Directing this new one, and that it's not exactly a remake but a re-imagining.

Only 20 years after the original. Wow, well atleast the sfx will be better.

Are you going to get the 20 year anni DVD?

No, years ago I bought that numbered limited edition collectors Tin box set that came with the first two movies. So far all the re-releases are the same extras just new ploys like "20th aniversary" on it to sell more.

Yeah, it comes with a poster.

A poster did you say???? What's the poster look like? Damn! If the poster is really cool, I just might drop the money down for the dvd lol.

I guess that makes me a sucker as well.

:p I think it's a Best Buy deal. I haven't seen it yet.

Drive a pin through September 5, 2008 in your calendar - that's the date MGM and The Weinstein Co. have circled for Clive Barker Presents: Hellraiser, a re-telling of Barker's novella "The Hellbound Heart" which is being written and directed by Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury (Inside). TWC's a fickle company, so don't be surprised if the release date suddenly moves.

Hellraiser Remake, Trailer Trash on the Move
Source: Box Office Mojo
January 25, 2008

The WGA strike appears to be shaking up production start plans for MGM and Dimension Films' Trailer Trash and Clive Barker Presents: Hellraiser. According to Box Office Mojo, the initial release dates for both films have been shifted from August and September of '08, respectively, to undetermined slots.

"Trash," Eli Roth's post-"Hostel" effort, is a feature consisting of faux trailers. "Hellraiser" is directors Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury's re-imagining of the Clive Barker novella "The Hellbound Heart."

i sort of like the whole cenobite mythology but none of the films have really been good in my opinion. and reading the hell bound heart was almost like reading a movie adaptation. i tried another clive barker book (can't remember which.) which just sort of ended in a mystical metaphysical copout. it had an awesome front cover of light shining through holes in some guy tho. you know horror really needs a kick up the arse. i'm just not sure if hellraiser could possibly be that kick.

^If anything, this remake may just be gory, not scary.

EXCL: Feast Scribes Board Hellraiser Remake
Source:Ryan Rotten
February 16, 2008

They are angels to some, demons to others...writers Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton have recently signed a deal with The Weinstein Company to pen the upcoming Hellraiser remake.

Dunstan and Melton cut their teeth on the Hollywood horror scene thanks to the DVD success of Feast, a creature feature distributed by Dimension. Since then they have penned Lionsgate's $125 million worldwide-grossing Saw IV and this year's Saw V.

Dunstan is currently in principal photography on Dimension's Midnight Man based on a script he co-penned with Melton.

The Weinstein brothers recently set a release date of January 9, 2009 for Hellraiser after it was evident directors Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury were never going to make the initial (unrealistic) September bow.

I have a really bad feeling about this. :(

Having the Weinstein bro's involved isn't always a good sign.

Many wonderful things could come of this, but then again I see this being made simply because of the resonance of the Hellraiser name, a potential cashcow, regardless of how little care they put into making the films.

UPDATE: Wanted: New Director(s) for 'Hellraiser' Remake

Update: We have confirmed that the directors are officially OFF the project. We heard some very disconcerting news last Monday that we were able to confirm over the past week. From what we were told by various sources, the Weinstein Company is seeking a new director for their remake of Hellraiser. What's not clear yet is whether or not Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury - who directed the astounding French horror film INSIDE - is officially off the project. If there were two people in this world I'd trust with the project, it would be those two. What could have happened to leave Dimension seeking a director? All I know is that I'm extremely disappointed by this news, and because of it I no longer care about the project until I hear something that sparks my interest again. We'll continue to dig on this story Monday, hopefully we'll find out something more official.
