George Clooney will star opposite Robert De Niro in director Marc Forster's 36, the remake of the French cop saga 36 Quai des Orfevres, De Niro told MTV. Dean Georgaris (Paycheck, The Manchurian Candidate) wrote the script.

The French film, starring Gerard Depardieu and Daniel Auteuil as detectives heading plain-clothes divisions at Paris police headquarters, centers on the quest to solve a series of armored car robberies with a promotion going to whomever catches the perpetrators.

Filming is scheduled to begin in New York later this year. Paramount will distribute. Robert De Niro's Tribeca and Georgaris' Penn Station are producing.

Ive never seen the french version but ive heard it's good and this is an interesting lead pairing

George Clooney just ANNOYS me anymore, but he does choose interesting projects, that's for sure.

I am sceptical about it.

Any reason why ? two good actors,a decent director and solid sounding plot seems good to me

Screenwriter, Dean Georgaris. He wrote Lara Croft 2 and Paycheck, so I don't think screenplay will be good (even if the main idea sounds cool).

Martin Campbell is attached to direct Paramount Pictures' 36, a remake of the 2004 French-language thriller 36 quai des orfevres. Author-screenwriter Richard Price will do a rewrite.

The story revolves around two detectives who try to solve a series of armored car robberies in the hopes of landing a promotion promised to whoever catches the perpetrators.

Robert De Niro, who is producing the project through his Tribeca Films, had been attached to star. The Hollywood Reporter says, however, that Price will pen an overhaul of Dean Georgaris' screenplay and reimagine the two detectives in their 30s.

Campbell most recently helmed Sony/MGM's international hit Casino Royale. He is prepping 20th Century Fox's thriller Unstoppable.

And so Hollywood continues its quest to remake every possible movie from around the world... :)
