(sorry, no dub or subtitles yet)

and some pics are here http://www.filmofilia.com/2009/01/11/audrey-tautou-in-coco-before-chanel-first-look/

This is about Coco pre Chanel (duh!) and how she became the visionary designer. I love Coco, and I think Audrey is the perfect casting. Plus all the costuming was supervised by the current creative director of Chanel, Karl Lagerfeld, so it sure will look pretty . I am really looking forward to this.

I find Audrey as fascinating actress and I think this looks quite interesting despite the fact it will be labeled a "Chick flick".

^Chanel had a very interesting life. She had a huge affair with a French millionaire that enabled her to start the first Chanel store.

Unfortunately she got a little too comfortable with the Nazi's when they invaded Paris :(.

Hunter, have you seen Priceless? It's a really cute film starring Tautou as a goldigger in the south of France. You might dig it.

:wow: Really ? Will that be covered in this film ?

I own that movie, I just haven't watched it yet. :O

I don't think so. This appears to be about her rise to popularity.

But yes, she had an affair with a German officer and actually attempted to act as an informant for the Nazis by using her ties to British royalty. She was almost tried for war crimes after, and public opinion about her was so bad in France she was forced to move to Switzerland (deservedly). Ironically it was her popularity in America that allowed her to become come back to France and re-establish her atelier and store in the fifties.

lol, well I enjoyed it a lot

That all sounds like it would make a great movie, makes me wonder if this is a success if they will make a follow up about the rest of her life.

I liked the look of it from the trailer, although the dude didn't look good enough for Audrey. :oldrazz: :cwink:

Audrey's going to be one hell of a young Coco Chanel. Such a fine actress ( Amelie). I'm really looking forward to seeing this version about this fascinating fashion icon unfold on screen.

Has anyone seen the latest Chanel AW09/10 collection from Paris Fashion Week? All I can say is :word:

Coco got her nickname because allegedly she was addicted to cocaine. I hope they adress that in the movie. ("Coco" used to be old french slang for the white stuff).

That would be great. It's actually a banner year for fashion films. Valentino: The Last Emperor and The September Issue come out in wide release later in the year.

Hahaha, he's actually a bit of a lovable looser. But I loooved her and Mathieu Kassovitz in Amelie. One of my all time favourite movie couples.

Yes! Lagerfeld is a genius. I'm also dying to get some of the new Chanel nail polish collection. They cost an arm and a leg but its worth it :)

I didn't know that. I just got a Chanel bio from the library so hopefully there will be some other interesting tidbits.

I could of sworn I've already seen this movie on Lifetime or something.

There is a lifetime one but its not french. Plus it covers her whole life, whereas this one is just her early years.

I don't think it's playing at any theatres near me :(

This isn't too bad for a collective percentage from critics so far...

Then again, after going to TIFF last week even more so I really don't give a crap what critics have to say. All I can do is validate my own viewing experience and perspective. Lot of the films I saw at TIFF didn't have too many reviews out until after the films were shown, and I was like "Did we watch the same film?" in response to some of the reviews I read afterward. The collective reviews for "Jennifer's Body" for example is making me go WTF. I thought it was bloody brilliant, man.

I don't think it's playing at any theatres near me :(

Where do you live? I'm in Honolulu and am actually surprised it's playing in the city this soon at the more "art house" theatre location. Hope to catch it next week, sometime. This weekend is kinda busy for me.

I found out about it on Fandango. You never know Dr. Watson. :yay:

currently I'm in small town Ontario. I'll have to check though. If not I can see it when I go back to the big city for Thanksgiving.

Omg, if you were able, we should've hooked-up at TIFF! That was my first time in Canada and man it was awesome! Hope to go again soon. :word:

There was another film about Coco Chanel playing up there but I would not have been able to see it because I didn't stay the whole fest. Coco & Igor Stravinsky That one looks intriguing as well. Hope you get to see the Audrey one on Thanksgiving!

ahhh you went to TIFF? I have NEVER been, even though I live there. I'm always away for school when it's going on :(

I'll let you know what I think of this film as soon as I see it :D
