Comics you do NOT want made into films

Today I read an issue of the comic Invincible by Robert Kirkman, and while reading, it occured to me that I...really never want to see a movie made about it - not because it's bad or anything, believe you me, but because of how the stories are written. How the story arcs are structured, how the art plays such a wonderful role in the story...no film, to me, could ever capture that well enough. No film could ever be much more than an letdown off of this comic.

So that's the question I ask you. Yeah, it's a bit of a crazy topic (and honestly, it might not even belong in this forum), but I thought it a mildly interesting question. Oh, and lets keep it specific. I don't want any "any comics that suck" replies or anything - way too easy.

Groo. Only because the humour would invariably be lost.

Well I can say one that I know a lot of people don't want to see done. Preacher. It might be my favorite comic book series and I would just LOVE to see it made it into a movie trilogy.

The Watchmen, although part of me would love to see it as a movie. I have to agree with Alan Moore and say there's no real way to do it justice. So much detail went into the artwork with little things in the backgrounds, hints, foreshadowing etc. That I just don't think it would really translate to film.

Watchmen
Preacher
Neil Gaiman's Sandman
Transmetropolitan

Aquaman
Namor
Ant-Man
Werewolf By Night
Spider-Woman
Shazam
Black Cat
Red Tornado
Superman/Batman
Justce League
Evil Ernie
Tarot
Another Vampirella
Another Crow
Another Mask

Oh they should definitely do a Mask movie the RIGHT way.

Why Shazam?

He's always seemed to have some potential, IMO.

YOU try convincing the uninitiated that he's not just a second-rate Superman knockoff. As I recall, his creators were unable to convince a judge of that. It's just "Big" w/superpowers.
Or at least that's how it would come across.

I agree. I LOVE Jim Carrey's Mask movie, but I think we should get the "truer to the comics" version. The gory horror version.

Watchmen
Sandman
Preacher
Fables
Planetary
Y: The Last Man
and yeah, Invincible

Sorry to break it to you, but they are making an Invincible film. However, Kirkman's writing it, so that's a plus.

I don't care. If I don't like it, I won't see it. Let them make whatever they want.

SuperGirl
BatGirl
Catwoman 2
Batman vs Superman
Robin

I see that as a TV series. Won't do the story justice if it's told in a 2-hour movie, what with the arduous journey and all.

Captain America. Superman's lacklustre box office performance was entirely predictable (although I predicted less of a failure than it actually appears to be) and Captain America would basically duplicate that performance. No thanks.

Here's a list of 'major' Superhero (meaning widely known. Constantine and LOEG arn't even known as comic characters by most people, but the rest are) movies I wouldn't mind seeing. Anyone not on the list automatically gets a "DONT MAKE A ****ING MOVIE ABOUT THEM AND STOP ****ING"

Marvel:

Spiderman
Ironman
Cap Amer
FF
Hulk, if they know how the **** do to it.

DC:
Batman
Robin*
Nightwing*
Superman
MAYBE Wonder Woman, though most likely no.

* - With Batman, Nightwing gets his own eventually.

Everything else needs to be thrown out the window.

No Doom Patrol, Xmen, Watchmen, Avengers, Teen Titans, JLA or anything really that comprises of a "team" with the exception of FF.

Why no xmen? Because the movies didn't do the character justice. A liveaction TV show would be MUCH better for "team" based things, with the exception of FF.

If they get Spielberg who I think would be interested I think it would be amazing.

I had actually heard about that - or, at least, that someone picked up the rights - still, as I said, even with Kirkman writing (although that is a big plus), I just haven't a clue how they'll ever be able to do what the comic does successfully in film.

Batman Beyond

I could see it working as a film. You know,if filmmakers weren't so bent on making unnecessary changes.

The day I see Spider-Man 2099 made into a movie is the day I burn down Hollywood.
