Conservative columnist Robert Novak has died

To blow the cover of a CIA agent implies that the identity was a secret.

I am disappointed by the foolishness of most of the comments in this thread.

Bob Novak was one of the best reporters in American political history.

:lmao:

No, I agree... it's respectable to make up stories to derail politicians and then commit treason by revealing the name of a CIA agent to the general public...

Coming from someone who likes to claim to be significantly more intelligent than the average American, that's a quite :whatever: worthy claim.

Show me a story without factual basis used to derail a politician.

Bob Novac being one of the most important reporters in American history is hardly any more profound than stating that James Madison is one of the most important fonding fathers. Anyone with basic knowledge into modern American history (being prior to 1960) would acknowledge this rather basic fact, Novac's importance in the history of Washington Reporting is indisputable.

How about, back in 1972, when Novak made up a quote about George McGovern being the candidate of "amnesty, acid and abortion"... then attributed it to an unnamed source... then in 2007, said it came from the mouth of Thomas Eagleton... who just so happened to be McGovern's first running mate...

Why on earth would Thomas Eagleton want to be George McGovern's running mate if he felt McGovern was going to lose big time to Catholic voters? Why would he set himself up for the epic fail that was his VP candidacy if he felt McGovern was so incompetent?

Eagleton was not known as one of the more brilliant politicians in Washington.

Given Novak's record, it's much easier to believe that Eagleton was the source than to believe Novak simply made it up. The man's credibility was well respected by objective observers of both sides of the isle.

But you ask why Eagleton would want to be McGovern's running mate if he felt McGovern was a flawed candidate? It's because he thought his career would be improved by joining a national ticket. Sarah Palin was a hard line conservative Republican and had to understand that the climate in 2008 was not good for a Republican candidacy - she took the role on the ticket, however, to bolster her national standing. The idea that Eagleton would jump on a losing team for future gain is hardly as preposterous as you make it sound like.
