Corona and other diseases

I wanted to post this as text, but I couldn't get the formatting to go how it was needed.
That being the case here is an image of quite recent data taken from Coronavirus Updates (COVID-19) Deaths & Cases per 1M Population | RealClearPolitics and I confirmed the numbers using worldometers.info which show Covid-19 cases, deaths etc. around the world. I grabbed the UK and USA numbers.

What I found truly shocking is, that taking population into account, the UK actually has higher deaths and a way higher fatality rate.

There are only 7 countries which have worse deaths per 1 million than the UK:
Belgium - 1736
Slovenia - 1402
Bosnia and Herzegovina - 1267
Italy - 1263
North Macedonia - 1229
Peru - 1186
Czechia - 1170
The death rate as a proportion of population is a valid comparison IMO, but the fatality rate means little when no one has any clue how many cases there really were in the first wave before testing was widespread.

Probably?
Maybe?
But I just don’t see anywhere to go apart from “nuclear” if this lockdown doesn’t do the trick.

How goes vaccine distribution so far in your end of the U.K.?

Sorry not to be as informed as I should on things across the pond.

Hmm...

Sounds like an idea for a U.K. based Hypester to start, no?

A U.K. news/culture thread where all the subjects of The Crown can gather to discuss and expose the rest of us to what is happening across the Atlantic in the home of our shared language. We already have stuff for politics and sports regarding the U.K., but this would fit in Community I think.

Just an idea some of our U.K. bretheren to mull over.

Every country should ban travel in & out of their country except for food & essential supplies distribution, lock down every country, no movement, total lockdown. Make essential shops be just food shopping & medicine, stop offering take away as an option. Close schools until clear. People are more important than money.

I don't think all that would even be necessary.

If people followed protocols and more governments gave varying degrees of relief to all those affected by necessay shut downs we would have all been done in half the time I bet.

Now this will drag on to summer.

Definitely on board with everything else you mentioned, but what's wrong with offering takeout? Don't quite get that one.
Take out means interaction with the delivery person/the people in the store and still going out to buy stuff.

I don't think a total lockdown is that necessary (like essential shops only) if only all people are making sure they wear face mask/shield all the time, wash their hands with alcohol and soap all the time, maintaining social distance, having the right air ventilation in enclosed spaces. But i think a lot of people forget to do those stuff all the time and they easily get comfortable with the people they are around with. The only way imo to stop this thing, is these vaccines but it would take years for half of the globe's population to even agree to taking it. The distribution is another issue.

Looking at the bright side, its almost like a miracle we already have a vaccine less than a year before almost eerything was shut down back in March. I'm trying to be optimistic and I think that months from now, it would get better as more people are vaccinated. The new variant though sounds alarming.

Its about compliance, and seemingly a number of the population are selfish, unable to sacrifice or compromise their own lifestyle for the many, but sadly that is human nature, this has exposed it writ large.

Governments (particularly mine in UK), were too slow to react, are capitalist at heart, so money comes before people and are too reliant upon the 'vaccine' as a safety. Their own measures should have been a FULL lock-down far earlier, but instead were happy to 'openly' admit, 'really we don't care if we lose people, we'll allow people to die' with herd immunity, then when 'called on this' tried to strike a 'balance' and be seen to care, which they don't. They have not taken advice of the science presented, reacted rather been progressive thinkers and placed ££££ at the head of the queue. Complete sh*t-show here in the UK. .

There’s just not much point in many people following the rules when a few doors down a full blown rave with a few hundred people indoors in one place is happening.

...Or Government Ministers and Celebs, brazenly flout the rules, once people see that, many will say 'Why do I have to bother, if they are not'. Ideally, the populas would say, 'That's one individual's view, I'll think for myself', but sadly that looks like it hasn't happened much.

My wife is getting her vaccine today. She supervises therapists (remotely for now) at a rehab/mental health facility and this qualifies her. It's a relief because she has an immune disorder that makes her susceptible to COVID.

So more people died in America yesterday than in 9/11. :(

Good to hear. I remember you mentioning that before so I’m glad there is a layer of safety now at least.

Thanks guys. Her arm is sore and her upper back is experiencing stiffness so she had a hard time sleeping last night and is a little cranky. She woke me up a couple of times last night to let me know she couldn’t sleep. Lol. Misery loves company I suppose. I was like “thanks for letting me know.” It wasn’t really that big of a deal to me. I only need about four or five hours sleep anyway which is about what I got.

The bottom line is that I think this means I’m on breakfast duty today. Bagels with cream cheese and lox plus trimmings is in order I think. To be honest, I’m not really sure that the upper back stiffness is related to it, but maybe.

My dad received the astrazeneca vaccine today, 1st jab then the 2nd one will be in April. The UK government hasn't done a great job overall but I will give them credit on their fast vaccine rollout so far.

1,325 deaths the latest daily figure for the UK. :csad:

Breakfast was great. Haven’t had bagels in awhile and had a glass of Mumms with it. I think I’m gonna take a nap. It’s my birthday today and I’m not gonna do F*** all. BTW, my mom should get the credit but the happy birthday wishes are appreciated.
