Corona and other diseases

How widespread is the U.K. variant in England? I’m hoping this gives some hope it won’t have the impact we fear and turn our progress around.
Since it started case numbers exploded here and a lot more people I know of have had it. Outside of the new daily case numbers though which have started reducing significantly, it’s hard to tell as we’re isolated from most people. Lockdowns (when a big part of the population are following the rules) can keep the new variant in check this has shown at least.

I thought it was being reported that at least one of the new vaccines was proving well against the variants. Hope its true.

One difference between republicans and democrats that is easy to see is that the dems are more likely to call out their own when they run afoul of most accepted norms. Of course, there are some norms that shouldn't be......normal and are accepted by both parties. Corporate election influence (my pet peeve of the week) comes immediately to mind.

Sometimes to a fault.

We're about to hit 500,000 deaths in the US.

The last couple of hundred thousand have come really quick. :csad:

I haven't thought about before, but do you think there will some kinda of memorial for all those lost to covid?

Well they did the lights along the reflecting pool when Biden was inaugurated, 400 lights representing the 400,000 (and jeez we’re already another 100,000).

My parents are finally fully vaccinated. They got the second dose yesterday, but it packed quite the punch. My dad had a little bit of soreness at the injection site and some body ache. My mom had it way worse with chills, body ache, headache, etc. For some reason I feel like the second dose is affecting women a lot more than men (in terms of side effects).

Oh boy. My daughter and I are both getting our second dose (she's recovering from leukemia) on 3/4. We're planning to celebrate by going to a restaurant that has a large outdoor patio with an ocean view and is following all CDC guidelines (checked it out myself). We're going to go there a couple hours after we get our vaccinations. I hope she's okay. If not, cancelling won't be a big deal. I can bring her soup or something.

EDIT: How long before the symptoms (other than site pain) showed up?

Well, this whole corona thing will be figured out in schools for the kids in 10 years in History or Biology I guess. I doubt a special memory holiday will happen, maybe some memorials.

I have known several people (not myself yet, unfortunately) who have gotten both shots and they all have had some degree of discomfort from it but they are all glad to be fully vaccinated now.

For my dad, it took about 12 hours for the body ache to start. My mom started to feel the symptoms about 6 hours after the shot. I heard it takes about 48 hours for things to go back to normal though.
