Just an idea I had while thinking about everyones favorite iron masked regent and how he might be introduced in the MCU (soon!)
For streamlining purposes it might make sense. Same global area, already introduced, with good reasons to hate superheroes and politically devasted enough for a dictator to rise to power quickly.

I hope that they show this in an origin story. I dislike Doom's origin being told in a Fantastic Four film and feel like doing so was a mistake. Disney need to work to get the Noah Hawley Doom film in the MCU and do things like make Latveria a post-Doom Sokovia to better fit established continuity.

I would prefer Latveria to be like a sister country to Sokovia, one maybe that is struggling with poverty now that the Sokovians have come in and now Latveria has to support a large amount of people they were not prepared to support. Enter Doom, who gains support from the people as Latveria prospers. Heck, maybe Doom even made his suit from the remnants of Ultron's scraps, only with improvements.

I've always been a fan of the Sokovia/Latveria idea, it ties things into the events of previous films, it even creates a situation where the population of the country would see Doom as their saviour for coming and bringing back stability while they would see the Avengers as the cause of all of the country's problems. You even have the situation where the country would have the remains of Ultron tech that could be exploited, there will even be some Vibranium lying around that Doom could scavenge for his armour.

Almost as if Feige/Whedon had planned that years ago. Too perfect.

Treat it like Burma/Myanmar: Latveria is the authentic name previously supplanted by one (Sokovia) chosen by the authoritarian regime Doom will dethrone.

I would rather Latveria was its own thing. Maybe a neighbouring state or country to Sokovia but not the same thing.

I don't want Doom's motivations to be like Zemo's in Civil War. I just want him to be a dictator. By all means, he can conquer Sokovia as well and bring it under his "benevolent" rule, but he shouldn't be motivated by grief or revenge for what the Avengers and Ultron did to Sokovia.

It makes perfect sense from a storytelling POV. The events of Age of Ultron destabilized the region, Doom swoops in and seizes control.

One thing I love about Dr. Doom is he actually DOES want to make the world a better place. He just wants to be given all the credit and make all the choices that matter because he feels people to be inferior to him. So, I think taking Sokovian refugees and stabilizing the region is exactly what Doom would/should be doing. But, I also agree his motivation should not be about revenge on the Avengers. It should be what Doom's decree has always been: Make a better world, the way Doom sees it. Guys like the Avengers are in the way of that, but not the main focal point.

There's a country called Slokovia in the comics that Latveria annexes after it falls apart partly because of Avengers shenanigans.

it would be interesting.. maybe there could be some history between magneto and doom if they take that route.

I would go with the neighboring state scenario. Perhaps broken up like the parts of Yugoslavia after the Iron Curtain fell. A dirty war with Sokovia could account for Colonel Zemo's background

Yeah. Just think of it like Bosnia, Serbia and Croatia.

Wow! A lot of great ideas on how to connect Doom with previous events in Age of Ultron. My mind is blown.

Surfer

Definitely. I've felt this way a while. Maybe not all of Sokovia, but a land grab leads to Doom's rise to power. Infrastructure rubble, people desperate, who better to save the day than the fearless leader DOOM!!

Oh I don't know. It doesn't seem to have the same hutzpah. I mean let's be honest, latveria mattered because of doom and it doesn't have that level of threat

^^^This. I think Latveria annexing Sokovia would be a good way to tie it in. But this version of Doom NEEDS two things the past versions have failed to deliver: Doom the ruler and Doom the sorcerer. Now that we have Strange in the mix, there should be nothing stopping us from finally getting magic Doom instead of "sparkly electric powers" Doom.

After Marvel introduced Latveria, how they need introducing adamantium? (Sorry for my english)

Need a similar cheap post credit scene in A3 or A4 :D

(Age of Ultron) flashback, we are in a dark, deep cellar under 'fresh' Sokovia's ruins. This text appears on an old computer's display:

Loading...Ultron MK2...
Vibranium...
RESULT: FAILED

Next target:
Adamantium

That's not bad. :snikt:

We definitely need a proper Adamantium Ultron. It doesn't matter that he was destroyed already. He always rebuilds himself.

Maybe Doom rebuilds him as his lackey?

I guess it is possible that in the rubble of Sokovia, the new monarch finds enough Ultron tech to build the prototype of his Doombots...

I'd rather Latveria be it's own thing with it's own history and culture. The line in AoU was that Sokovia is no place special but on they way to everything special. I'd like to think one of those places is Latveria.
