Could "The Gauntlet" be the birth of "Spider-Corps" or a Birds of Prey-centric book?

I thought about it for a while now... marvel has so many spider-related heroes and villains who honestly can no longer carry anything on there own. Many I like alot, they've just had nothing to do for a while now. So I felt maybe we should team them up?

My plan would be, after the gauntlet.... have a team consisting of..

-Madame Web (sort of like Oracle)
-Kaine (have him regain his sanity, and be more of a "Whistler ala blade" type of figure
-Arachne (she's really done nothing since omega flight)
-Arana (hardly used as well)
-Mattie Franklin (see above)

other possible people i could see join at some point or for team-up issues...
-Black Cat
-Scorpion (female)
-Jackpot
-Anti-Venom
-Tarantula (female from heroes for hire)
-Spider-Woman
-Jessica Jones
-Cardiac (where the hell has he been?)
-Ben Reilly
-Scarlet Spider (initiative)

I think it could be fairly interesting... and marvel needs an on going girl heavy book imo... And think like batman... the spider-man cash cow might just do that.

Kaine
Prowler
Cardiac

Those 3 plus whoever you wanted to add would be awesome. I hate Spidey these days but I'd buy that book in a heartbeat!

Marvel doesn't have ongoing girl-heavy books because they tend not to sell too well. I mean, I sure wouldn't read a book with those characters. Arachne's pretty much the only one on your list that I like, and only with a passing interest at that.

Then again, get Dan Slott to write it and I might give it a try. Especially if Kaine and/or Prowler are involved.

Looks like the beginning of the Spider-Corps in the upper left corner.

Sounds like an awful idea to me personally. Yes I want to see the characters mentioned used, but used in a way thats good for them, appose to "well you're all spider characters be a spider-team" it's kinda lame and the way you put it as "birds of prey-centric book" is another reason this won't happen it's far to derivative of another existing team book. If anything I'd like the ASM to start putting out more minis or one-shots or what ever of Amazing Spider-Man presents for characters as a lead to a series of some sort. But don't look to the Spider-Women to bring back Marvel female characters. We need Ms. Marvel back honestly.. what good is making it to 50 issues if 50 is the last issue:( I hope in the next couple years a new Ms. Marvel series launches, But we'll have Black Wider and Spider Woman for now... We could really use a new She-Hulk series. A big problem with Marvel's female characters is the most popular ones are all X-Men characters.

That's a good spot for the sole remaining Scarlet Spider. I was hoping he'd end up with a revamped New Warriors team (all the elements are there in Avengers: The Initiative, they just need to have Vance call them "the New Warriors" again), but this actually works a bit better.

I wonder who's in the black suit.

I've always liked the idea of Amazing Spider-Man Family and Web Of Spider-Man; but, think Marvel's kind of missed the potential of both of those titles. As you mention, the Spidey Universe is quite large; yet, why in the hell does Marvel waste our time with some short stories featuring the Amazing Spider-Ma'am and Mr. and Mrs. Parker, especially when they have such a rich history to borrow stories from? The only thing both have done right is including Amazing Spider-Girl in the comic.

Of course, now we have Amazing Spider-Man Presents, which have given us the Anti-Venom and Jackpot minis.

I duno... i just think there's alot of wasted potential among these characters. hell have some of the Slingers return too... and like i've said these characters can never hold up things on there own.... but with a good writer and interesting stories they all could sky rocket. Especially with a writer in the spirit of Dan Slott...

yeah but that can be said about so many characters in the Marvel U and DCU.

Hey, since the Big Three are returning to the Avengers, what if Spider-Man forms his own Spider group like you suggested. So the team would include Spider-Man. I would then use the guys I highlighted in your post. I would include Spider-Woman, but something tells me she will remain an Avenger.

I would also throw the Prowler & Luke Cage in there too. :spidey:
