Hardy Offers Cowboys for Christ
The Wicker Man helmer heads back to Scotland.
by Chris Tilly, IGN UK
UK, November 23, 2007 - Robin Hardy has set a March start date for his forthcoming film Cowboys for Christ, which bears more than a passing resemblance to his horror classic The Wicker Man.
Based on Hardy's own novel, the film follows the experiences of a Christian couple from Texas who travel to a Scottish village to enlighten the locals in the ways of Jesus. Initially welcomed with open arms, it soon becomes clear that the community has sinister plans for their new guests.
Touching on themes of religion, sexuality and paganism, the book certainly harks back to The Wicker Man, which Hardy also wrote and directed. The fact that he has again cast Christopher Lee as the local patriarch also means celluloid parallels are bound to be made.
However, producers CFC Films are keen to point out that the film is more a companion piece than a direct follow-up, telling Screen Daily "Cowboys for Christ is not a sequel or a prequel to The Wicker Man, but it is a story inhabiting the same territory."
