saw it last night

it felt like a firecracker u buy and someone says its a dud, but you light it up anyway hoping it will go bang :csad:

the plot holes, bland action and stereotypical characters with little development ect just leave the film empty
really disappointing overall given the great actors in the film

4.5/10

Saw it today, I thought it was ok but fairly empty. The alien designs were good and there was one cool nod from Favs to Aliens, but the story was dull and once you see the alien ships capture the humans via a sky-hook style device, you've seen the best this film has to offer in action, from this point on it's paint by numbers run and gun stuff, very little in the way of imaginative shots.

Craig is good as the stoic Man with a name everyone knows but him and Olivia Wilde has an ethereal quality that makes her role work. However for me the movies best moments all come from Harrison Ford as a grizzled badass ex Colonel who is now a rancher, he has the best lines and scenes and nails them all, his presence and charisma carrying the movie through the none shooting parts and standing out during them.

He blasted onto our screens 35 years ago and he still has the same star quality he had as charismatic rogue smuggler Han Solo, just with a few added wrinkles and grey hair.

maybe with RDJ it would be different. the movie would be more fun. i guess. plus RDJ and Ford would work together.

BTW film makers have mixed the Western genre before with fantasy, with the dinosaur movie The Valley of Gwangi.

This was quite possibly the most underwhelming movie of the year...I mean, maybe I would've given the movie more credit if it wasn't so heavily hyped I suppose, but after so much hype and anticipation, it just didn't get over that "hump" per se.

Maybe in a few years, I'll watch it without expectation and I can give it a bit more credit, but for now, I have absolutely no desire to watch again...

I already forgot all about this movie.

Even with all of the negative reaction, I'm still looking forward to seeing this. I wasn't able to catch it in the theaters so I'll be picking up the Blu Ray.

OMG Ford's Jaw is a spaceship! RUN! RUNNNN!!!! GET OUT OF THERE!!!

Seriously...WTF?

I would buy the movie just for that cover. That cover is absolute cinematic beauty.

^ No way....it's horrible. The placement of the light beam is just...silly.

Now...take that away? It's alright. Nice colors.

It reminds me of the Iron Man 2 dvd cover. But this one is horrible looking and I blame the fact it's in a BluRay box.

Universal exec apologizes, admits Cowboys & Aliens sucked.

It has not been an easy few years for Universal. While they've had some nice successes (DESPICABLE ME, BRIDESMAIDS and FAST FIVE among them), there have been way too many high-profile disappointments. From THE WOLFMAN to LAND OF THE LOST to COWBOYS & ALIENS to YOUR HIGHNESS, Universal has sunk a lot of money into movies that just didn't perform. When asked about his studio's performance, President of Universal Studios, Ron Meyer explained it succinctly. "We make a lot of ****** movies."

Meyer spoke at the Savannah Film Festival in a brutally honest speech, opening up about Universal's recent and frequent disappointments.

COWBOYS & ALIENS? "Wasn’t good enough. Forget all the smart people involved in it, it wasn’t good enough. All those little creatures bouncing around were crappy. I think it was a mediocre movie."

LAND OF THE LOST? "Just crap. I mean, there was no excuse for it."

THE WOLFMAN?? "One of the worst movies we ever made...WOLFMAN and BABE 2 are two of the ****tiest movies we put out. The script never got right...the director was wrong. Benicio [del Toro] stunk. It all stunk."

Tell us how you really feel, Ron... But seriously, this is exactly what needed to be said. Some people probably won't like hearing it (perhaps Joe Johnston and Jon Favreau) but we, as audience members and movie fans, need to hear an admission of guilt. I may not have my $10 back, but I feel better knowing that they have failed. If they can admit to us some of their movies are crap, maybe that's enough for them, behind office doors, to admit to themselves what they're doing is crap and make some changes.

I do not understand whatsoever how this movie could have cost $163 million dollars. There was a very small amount of action and most of it consisted of people shooting on horseback and some explosions. The only effects heavy scene was with the aliens attacking at the end, and even then, they weren't very impressive looking. Methinks the cast had a mighty big payday.

Damn, guy has balls for coming right out and saying that. He even reached all the way back for Babe 2, that must've had a serious impact on him.

LOLOLOL! I don't think it was that bad, I also don't think Wolf Man was that bad.

I see there is an extended cut for the blu-ray but I have a feeling it will be one of those mediocre releases where all they do is slap on a few extra scenes that add absolutely nothing to the movie. I wonder if there's enough extra footage for Jon Favs to do a complete recut ala Blade Runner.

Whoa whoa whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Babe 2 was not a piece of ****. Babe 2 is a great movie.

I thought it was ok. The cast was good but the story was a bit bland.

I thought it was awful. Soulless cowboys and generic aliens. Olivia Wilde is such a mediocre actor too.

Only thing good about it is Daniel Craig, he delivers the coolness.

Is it bad that I loved this movie? For some reason I loved craig and fords characters and ford was really convincing. Granted the aliens were a rip off of cloverfield and really had red bells going off when the aliens had 2 extra hands in there stomachs. The action was fun and it was cool to watch craigs character rediscover himself with the audience. Maybe I missed it but the aliens used the gold for nutrients correct? I will say this was a better directorial effort then ironman 2 was.

Olivia Wilde really has taken that role of sex symbol and doesnt really appear to have a real range of acting, she acted in this the same as her other movies Ive seen her in. Like another poster said I dont know how this cost $163 million to make, I would assume ford and craig got paid really good and they must have had some nice lunches on set. Isnt it a telling thing when district 9 was made for peanuts and looked like a 200 million film and films like these dont look any different but cost more then I could ever make?

I finally saw this movie, picked up the Blu Ray. I was originally disappointed I didn't get a chance to see it in the theaters, but after watching it, I was glad I just waited for the Blu Ray. It wasn't horrible, fun during some parts, but overall just very bland. Wilde's character seemed completely useless, not even sure what her purposes was in the movie.

It was decent, but nothing that great.

I really love this movie dammit!
