i'm not talking about the Criminal Books or 100 Bullets.....

i'm looking for something a little more pulpish/40's-ish...

somethin in the vain of maltese falcon or bogart or something

can anyone help me ??????????????????????????????

All of Bendis' early stuff is good. Torso, Jinx, and Goldfish would all fit in the noir-ish category.

Torso was co-written with Marc Andreyko, don't forget him :D

has anyone heard of SLAMM: hardboiled fiction of cj henderson

apparently cj hend. was a writer for batman & the punisher @ one point to

Gotham Central if you want a good view of the police side of things...

I tend to go for noir with other stuff mixed in:

- Gotham Central is excellent for noir stuff within a superhero universe. Don't worry, the superhero stuff is kept relatively minor; the emphasis is on how normal cops try to deal with a city where supervillains run rampant.

- The Damned is an absolutely amazing supernatural noirish tale. It basically poses the question, "What if the mobs of the '20s and '30s were run by demons?"

- It only has one issue out right now, but Pretty Baby Machine is a pretty cool historical fiction take on some real gangsters.

- Torso was pretty good.
