CVS to employees: Tell us your weight and quit smoking or you pay a penalty.

Considering half of Americans are overweight, shouldn't they sort of recalibrate the whole "wellness" thing?

After all, we don't base intelligence on ideal intelligence. If we did, half the population would be reclassified as mildly mentally ******ed.

Is it bad, I wouldn't be shocked if my IQ was that low?

This sounds like something that will be blamed on Obama and Obamacare.

I blame Obama, Obamacare, and the Republicans...and FOX NEWS. Except for Red Eye...it makes my soul giggle. Kelly knows what I am talking about, she watches it.

Clearly, this is a ploy by our Reptilian overlords.

In the far flung future, reptilian families will be dining at Kentucky Fried Human.

as a former smoker, I know that nothing shields people from the smoke smell. I dont care how many showers/air fresheners you have. lol
Smelling like smoke is not a definitive indicator of a smoker. I have friends and family who smoke so me smelling like smoke now would be a result of that not me myself having smoked. You can't discriminate people for smelling like smoke. So they would need to definitively prove the person smoked.

As for the smell lingering, I have found some effective measures to combating the smell. Good air flow being the key factor.

Cigarette smoke always reminds me of my childhood. Ah second hand nostalgia.

Wait, so is CVS wanting employees to submit this personal information to THEM or to their insurance?

If they mean for employees to give that information to the company itself or be fined...I'm sorry but that's beyond messed up. That's really none of the companies business and seeing how ita considered a medical matter, privacy is even more a right of the employee. I see no reason why CVS would need this information. Promoting better employee health is one thing, but saying "give us personal information or pay a fine!" is another thing entirely.

Haha, this on the verge of me possibly getting a job with them.

I'm amazed there isn't a fat lobby or movement fighting this kind of stuff.

Haha its the same with me. My grandparents smoked like freight trains and the smell of smoke reminds me of their house.

At my job smokers do have to pay more for insurance. I guess the weight thing makes sense , but that also goes into a lot of grey areas.

Not sure about the rest of the world, but in the city I live, CVS has the rep as having the most obnoxious/rude employees. My wife works in a doctor's office and deals with all the pharmacies in the area...the one that gives them the most trouble is CVS.

Red Eye is awesome!

I don't see why. Places have been doing this for a long time.

Because, as my Republican friend puts it, forcing these companies to pay for health insurance means they will have to lower wages, fire people, or do things like this to cover the higher costs of benefits.

It's the same in my area.

Yep those poor poor billion dollar corporations whatever will they do without their 6 and 7 figure bonuses.

I love how Fox News pretty much indicted this as a direct result of Obamacare...

Works out so well for the pot smokers I'm sure.

They can test for pot in the body because it is an illegal substance and like alcohol impairs your ability to safely work. Nicotine is legal and does not impair you. Good luck passing a law making It legal to test people for nicotine in their body. Until they do such a thing there is no definitive way to determine who is a smoker and who isn't unless they are caught in the act and it is properly documented. Otherwise it is hearsay and doesn't mean jack****. So yeah I would lie.

Just lie. They can't follow you around 24/7 to make sure you don't smoke.
I don't have to follow anyone around for 24/7 to know if they smoke...just takes a second standing within 5 feet of them.

Ill go back to what I said earlier. I have friends and family who smoke and have returned home smelling like it yet I do not smoke. Your assumption I smoke based on smell alone would be false. A doctor would not make the same assumption and would never mark it in someone's chart based on smell alone so CVS has no definitive way of proving anyone smokes. No legal ways in accordance with civil rights.

I'm not talking about legalities, just talking about how I know if someone smokes. Second hand smoke effects your health....and third hand smoke does too. If my wife is around someone who is smoking....or someone who has a bunch of smoke already in their clothes because they were smoking earlier or in a house that someone smokes a lot lives in....I can watch her body react to it and cause her distress. I immediately notice smoke lingering in the air, but it doesn't effect me...but my wife's body reacts strongly to it.
