Sci-Fi Dan Trachtenberg to direct Predator film ‘Badlands’

I'm happy to see some love for Predator 2, I've always felt it's one of those underrated sequels that gets unfair hate.

A couple of things I appreciate about it:

Changing the setting to the city. It would have been easy to do a jungle or a remote place again but they changed things up. Getting Danny Glover as a lead who brings a different vibe to Arnie rather than just getting a 'Arnie clone'. The new things they introduce as part of the Predator arsenal are genuinely cool and awesome. The blade, the spear, the net. A lot of sequels would get those elements wrong and add unnecessary things but these are actually cool additions. The scene in the slaughterhouse when they disguise their heat signatures and the predator has another 'frequency' to use to spot them. That's awesome!

On a sidenote I think Predator 2 might just be the sweatiest movie ever. Everyone looks like they're out of a sauna, pretty sure Bill Paxton has big sweat stains in his arm pits in every scene he is in.
I really like 2. Part of that is I grew up with it, but I genuinely think a lot works for it. Especially Glover. The biggest issue is it's massively racist. Which I guess I just learned to live with.

Predator 2 is one of those odd films that gets better each viewing, it starts out a bit goofy and silly but as the plot develops and main characters start getting offed it builds to the great finale and Danny Glover throughout acts as a solid anchor through some of the silly bits. Plus the complete change of setting makes it far more interesting than rehashing the "jungle" theme of the first. The lore and world building is also well done.
It's a jungle. The concrete jungle. Which is just a killer pun to base your sequel on. :funny:

Yeah the way they portrait the gangs isn't very 'PC' by today's standards, I guess growing up in the 90s it's the kind of thing that was in many movies so I didn't really think about it much. It also has that funny trope of being a futuristic movie, being released in 1990 but set in the crazy apocalyptic future of... 1997!!!! They really assumed gang wars would escalate by 3000% in just a few years.

Every time the date hits I cackle. Because I always forgot. Setting something 7 years in the future is so pointless. :funny:

Is this the first time they've actually referred to PRedators as Yaujta?

Any ideas when the full reviews get released. Cant seem to find any confirmation anywhere on google.
