Danny Boyle Eyes Trainspotting Sequel for 2016

Danny Boyle is interested in celebrating the twenty-year anniversary of 1996's Trainspotting by adapting Porno, author Irvine Welsh's sequel to the original novel. "I don't think there will be any barriers to Ewan [McGregor] or any of the cast coming back," Boyle says. "I think they'll wanna know that the parts are good so they don't feel like they are letting anyone down." He adds that "the only criteria" is to not disappoint fans of the original.

In 1996, the crime thriller Trainspotting, based on Irvine Welsh’s novel, introduced much of the world to a number of talented actors and a filmmaker who would go on to win an Oscar 13 years later. In the nearly 20 years since Danny Boyle directed his groundbreaking second film, he’s been asked about a long-proposed sequel that would be made based on Welsh’s follow-up novel Porno.
That sequel would bring together the original cast of Trainspotting including Ewan McGregor, Jonny Lee Miller, Robert Carlyle and Ewan Bremner, who would be playing the same characters 20 years later. (Kevin McKidd’s character died from a drug overdose in Trainspotting.)
While doing press at the Telluride Film Festival where Boyle’s latest film Steve Jobs had its unofficial premiere over the weekend, the filmmaker was asked about the sequel–as he has been asked every single time he talks to any journalist–and it’s being reported now that he plans for Trainspotting 2 (or whatever it ends up being called) to be his next movie.
Boyle told Deadline that the only thing that might hold up the sequel is the busy schedule of the four main actors, telling them: “Now it is only a matter of getting all their schedules together which is complicated by two of them doing American TV series.”
Jonny Lee Miller is the star of CBS’ popular show “Elementary” and Carlyle regularly appears on ABC’s “Once Upon a Time.”
