Dawn of the Planet of the Apes - Part 2

It's better that way as it gives them a bit more creative freedom.

Exactly,They wont have to completely follow the rules of the past series and they can get more creative than if it was a straight up prequel.

I rewatched that movie a couple days ago. It sucks. The main good things were Tim Roth and the makeup.

Ending made no sense at all either.

The ending, if Burton had taken the time to build it up and explain would have made more sense in keeping with the novel's endsing (which 1968 version ignores) but I suspect there was a 'don't worry, we don't have to explain the edning, we can do that in the sequel'... approach and it never came to be.

The power, grace, depth of emotions Cesar displayed was immense, These Hollyweird clowns better acknowledge the job Serkis did.

I went in to this film expecting good things and I was not disappointed, excellent movie.

Koba. Perhaps... best CGI villian of the year.
He is so demonic and brutal.:woot:
What he did during the battle in the city... Just terminator!):mrk:

I think that in the end Koba became more resemble humans. Because of his actions and methods.

We ain't at that point of mocap getting lumped into into real world actor categories yet.

There just needs to be an alternative peformance category as there are always these kinds of notable performances that can greatly contribute to a film without meeting traditional standards for nomination, like Serkis' many efforts, a lot of different voice acting gigs, particularly like Johansson in "Her".

Serkis is obviously great but I also thought Kebbel and the animators did absolutely fantastic work with Koba.

Saw the film today. loved it.

It's visually breathtaking. During every close up the apes almost looked like they were on set, living and breathing...Especially Blue Eyes, his face looked sculpted by hand, not via a computer.

I thought a few things were unexpected such as [BLACKOUT]Koba shooting Caesar [/BLACKOUT] and I was outraged when I thought [BLACKOUT]Maurice had been killed[/BLACKOUT].

An incredibly well made film, I couldn't handle the tension! The only thing I found a bit lacking were the humans, but I wasn't there for the humans so doesn't dampen the film for me. Oh and more [BLACKOUT]Gorilla man power [/BLACKOUT]would've been cool to see.

Cannot wait for the third instalment.

I love this shot, Koba channeling some Rooster Cogburn! :D

Amazing, Koba was just as great an achievement as Caesar IMO.

I tried to watch PotA Burton edition week before last and didn't even want to finish it, half way through. Not that it was "bad", I was willing to give it a chance but the issue was, it made me want to watch the original more than continuing to the end.

So that's what I did, went out and bought it. If you haven't seen it in a long time, or ever, just watch it. It is a brilliant movie. I remember my dad telling me about it when I was younger and seeing bits and pieces on TV, but seeing the whole thing you know you're watching a masterpiece.

This film was truly brilliant. I really loved Koba and Caeser, they really stood out for me in all their scenes. Blue Eyes was a nice surprise too.

Truth be told, I thought Koba and Maurice surpassed Caesar in regards to CG achievement. Those two genuinely looked scary-real at times.

Still not convinced Maurice wasn't some magnificent creation out of the Jim Henson creature shop. Too real.

Yeah, Maurice I thought was animatronic. DAT fur.

Hmm interesting link there.

I do feel like Serkis has maybe been trying to claim more credit for his mo-cap work than he is due?

I don't deny that he's good at what he does but as the article states there really a whole team who are providing probably 50% or more of what makes the on-screen characters work.

I'm not sold that there would be a big drop in quality had someone other than Serkis been hired to mo-cap for Ceasar. I think he may simply be being hired almost for his name and cred.
