Dawn of the Planet of the Apes - Part 2

Word of mouth will keep this earning good money for many weeks to come.

I thought he was more of a hitler.

1. Burning down the apes town = burning down the reichstag.

2. Assassination of ceaser = ending the Weimar Republic

3. Koba being clearly f****d in the head and a survivor of traumatic violence = hitler with the chemical warfare

Of course it might also be a Roman Empire thing

"Koba" was Stalin's nickname during the revolution.

Side note: Here is some stunning concept art.

Debates and deep analysis like these is why I don't post much in movie threads anymore,Films are meant for entertainment and not to be dissected by every little piece and debating what it all really meant and of it had more deep messages

But whatever,anyway..I was hoping they'd mention Will's fate,I assume he simply just died with the virus but would have liked it confirmed somehow

Listen to some interviews with Reeves. He certainly had intents in the directions he and the writers took this story. And this has almost always been a message heavy, often sledgehammer-subtle franchise.

Also while this film plays with some "native" imagery, I got a much more Israel/Palestine vibe than the usual "lets go out and steal resources from the natives" story.

Thought it was great but was let down by Russell's character. She's kinda my TV crush after watching the Americans and once you've seen how badass Elizabeth is , its hard to see her as the peaceful, supportive girlfriend/love interest. Still though, she did a good job with what she was given and its not like I regretted seeing her on the big screen.

I liked DOPOTA better than the first one actually and it really did remind me alot more of the original films.

I give it a 10 out of 10. I'd put it up there with Captain America Winter Soilder, Spiderman 2, Empire Strikes Back and TDK in terms of sequels which surpass the original.

There was quite a bit that ended up on the cutting room floor with this movie. Russell was asked to join the film given Reeve's history of working with her on Felicity, and there was probably a lot more to the character than what ended up in the final film.

I know there was originally supposed to be more with Caesar's wife as well as in interviews I saw last year Judy Greer talked about filming a hell of a lot more than what the role was cut down to in the film.

Loved it. Favorite film of the year so far.

GORGEOUSLY shot. Impressively emotional, well acted, suspenseful, often scary, thought provoking, and when it wants to be, damn exciting.

The main issue I'm reading about, again, is the human element. Why do people loathe it so much? Snide remarks about "leave the people out next time" are common. I don't get this. Yes, the apes are the big draw, and yes they are fascinating to watch but the human element is needed imo to keep the allegory and dichotomy up front and center. Half the enjoyment of these films is seeing the apes interact with the people. Some of my favorite moments in both films have been the human/ape stuff.
It's true that none of the people are totally three dimensional, but I think they are acted well enough, and given enough meat to make them empathetic and understandable. Even the stereotypical "*****y human bigot" character felt more real than he could have been due to a grounded performance and dialogue delivery.

I didn't hate the human element. I just hated that it was often so difficult to hear what they were saying.

Reeve has confirmed an extended cut for blu-ray so perhaps we'll get those scenes

so would the next film be a remake of planet of the apes? ceasar would be long dead if the shuttle comes back to earth in the future

^Hope not; the twist wouldn't work anymore.

I don't expect Caesar to die until at least the end of the next film and so if they jump into the future with Taylor it won't be until part 4 or 5

Great movie & I am kind of not looking forward to the return of that one specific Ape hinted at during the ending of the end credits

I didn't see the end credits scene and so how is it hinted that Koba is alive?,Does it show his move or what?,I've read about a voice hinting it and so do some humans talk about finding an ape alive?

You hear some apes noises and then you hear rubble moving. It seems like a vague hint that koba at least survived the initial fall.

If Koba returns to feud with Ceasar in the next film, then it REALLY makes it clear that this storyline should have been developed into the next film instead of shoe-horned into this one.

This story seems natural for this film and a full on war for part 3 to me I don't find it shoe horned at all

If the next film is Koba and those loyal to him in a struggle for power over Ceasar and those loyal to him, then I dont see how you couldn't view the final act of this film shoehorned in, given the odd abrupt shift that occurred in this film.

Your theater must have sucked. I had absolutely no problem hearing anything being said.

Yeah I didn't have a problem understanding anything that anybody said

My theater crowd was great. Kept quiet and only expressed emotions when it called for it.

Just got out of it. It's a perfect movie. The best of the year.

Me neither. I'm kinda surprised to hear some reviewers say the ending doesn't leave any indication of what the next film will be, when Ceasar pretty much spells out that its gonna be a war film. I assume the next one is gonna be called War for the Planet of the Apes or something along those lines.

Well if you think about it, Koba or an ape like him will eventually reign supreme. Jaffa and co have already stated that the original Heston film is still within the same continuity as these films; so..at some point Caesar's philosophy of peaceful coexistence with humans is completely abandoned. So a Koba type regime will untimely rule; or Caesar will abandon his dream of living peacefully with humans - which make more sense, seeing as how Caesar's pretty much worshipped by all the apes in the Original film.
