this one is a lot less complicated you choose either DC or Marvel for the each of the following categories

1. Characters
2. Stories
3. Power (as in which companys has the more powerful characters)
4. media interpretations ( movies, tv etc)

1. Characters = Marvel

2. Stories = Even, really.

3. Power = DC. Superman, Wonder Woman, Captain Marvel, the Green Lanterns, Batman with Prep Time. Power level is insane at DC.

4. Media Interpretations = Marvel. DC's strongest in the animated department, but Marvel has had more quality across the board.

I guess I'll follow what Bill did, even though the intent of this thread wasn't clear in the first post. :argh:

Characters - Even, both have great characters, middling characters and flat out crappy characters. I'd give DC the edge purely because their crap isn't able to be defined in two general terms like Marvel's is. Those words, of course, are "extraneous mutants".

Stories - Even. Again, both run the gamut of good and bad.

Power - Earth-based; DC has the edge. Overall though, I think Marvel's better defined cosmic situation gives them the edge.

Media Interpretations - Movies: Marvel. Quantity may not equal quality, but Marvel has a higher quantity of quality. TV: Neither. If it's not Super, Bat, Spider or X-related, it tends to suck and die. (Exceptions include the Linda Carter Wonder Woman series and the Incredible Hulk series.) Recognition: DC hands down, but Marvel still has its foot in that door.

Characters: Even, they all have good, bad, and OK. Marvel has a lot of good characters, but most are either mutants, science experiments gone wrong, or science experiments gone right. DC has more varied characters, but Marvel has more characters with great story potential.
Stories: I'll side with DC, I find them more accessible most of the time and I tend to enjoy them much more, probably because Bruce, Barry, and Hal are my 3 favorite heroes.
Power: Depends on the writer, really.
Media Interpretations: Superman: The Movie, Batman Begins, and Dark Knight are, in my opinion of course, greater than anything Marvel has accomplished thus far. But Marvel has a much more expansive catalog, I never cared for any of the Spider-Man movies or X-Men but I liked Daredevil, Iron Man, and The Incredible Hulk. But I'll give it to Marvel for producing their characters' films as best they can.

Characters - It really depends on what characters you prefer. Personally, I'm more of a DC guy because my favorites are Aquaman, Superman, Batman, Dick Grayson, Wally West, etc. The only Marvel characters that I consider to be my favorites are Spider-Man, Hank Pym, and Deadpool. However, I can totally see where people enjoy the X-Men as their favorites or Iron Man, etc. I wouldn't call it a tie at all, it's just a preference.

Stories - This one goes to DC with stories such as Kingdom Come, Watchmen, the Dark Knight Returns, All Star Superman, etc. However, Marvel does have some strengths that DC doesn't have. I think that Marvel has done a better job at fleshing out the characters of Spider-Man, Iron Man, Captain America, etc. than DC has with Batman, Superman, Green Lantern, etc.

Power - This one goes to DC by far. With the massive amounts of supernatural entities such as the Spectre, Superboy Prime, the New Gods, Kryptonians/Daxamites, magicians such as Zatanna and Dr. Fate, Firestorm, the Flashes, etc. Who is Marvel's most powerful being? Squirrel Girl :o

Media Interpretations - While it would appear that Marvel has the edge at this one due to the fact that Marvel has more video games, movies, television shows, etc. out there, DC has this one in the bag as well.

If you take a look at video games, Batman: Arkham Asylum wipes the floor with anything that Marvel has put out. That said, there is also the dreaded Superman 64 :csad:

Look at movies, sure Marvel has the first two Spider-Man movies, Iron Man, and X-2: X-Men United which were great, but DC has Superman: The Movie, the Dark Knight, Batman: Mask of the Phantasm, and Watchmen, which are masterpieces. And lets not forget Batman, Batman Returns, Superman II, and V for Vendetta, which were pretty damn good. However just like with the video games, some of the absolute worst have also come from DC with Batman & Robin, Catwoman, and Steel.

With Direct-To-Video movies, DC wipes the floor with Marvel on this one. The DC Universe Animated Original Movies line has been pretty damn good while with the Animated Marvel Features line....the only good ones have been Dr. Strange and the Hulk movies.

And television, DC takes this one by far thanks to the DC Animated Universe. No debate. Good night :o. On a side note, DC also has a better history with television thanks to the Adam West Batman series, Lynda Carter's Wonder Woman, and Batman: The Brave and the Bold. I think that Marvel tends to accept mediocrity far too often with the television department.
