Dead Island: Riptide

I guess it's actually no worse than Halloween decoration of severed limbs that you can buy in stores, I'd still wouldn't get the collectors edition though. It's one thing to decorate your home for one scary night, but to have a cut up torso permanently standing somewhere in your room is kinda creepy.

I'm all about creepy Halloween/Horror stuff. From where I'm sitting I can see a Texas Chainsaw Massacre poster and a collection of Universal Monster figures. However, even I wouldn't want that statue. I can see why people would find it offensive, but I just mostly see it as offensively tacky.

I liked the first Dead Island, sure it was glitchy at times but it was definitely a satisfying game. I'm sure I'll like Riptide.

I loved the first one, but I'm not excited about this one. I was at first, then I saw some gameplay footage, and it was exactly the same. Even the locations look like the locations from the first dead island.

I think the fun really comes from playing with friends. Kinda like Raccoon City. It's not really a great single player experience, but play that with 3 friends, and it's suddenly a lot more fun.

I agree, but I had a lot of fun in DI 1 even when I was playing alone.

I never actually played that alone. Well, except for the beginning where you had to. The first Dead Island was an exclusive co-op game for me.

yeah I can understand that, but I don't have much friends who have this one ^^ Or at least, they are not playing anymore.

Some of the reviews of this have been so stupid. I saw Gamespot gave it a 4.0 because it plays like the original Dead Island, while they gave Dead Island itself a 7.5 or something.

Because the original was at least a little ambitious even though it was terrible this one is a dlc pack that is even worse. I think it even plays and looks worse than the first one

Same here.

Yeah but that kind of fun doesn't need to bought for full price day 1 (I bought Dead Island about 1 month after release). I'll probably get this in 6 months to a year when it's damn cheap. :yay:

But that is a considerable weakness for a new game released later at the same price. If the competition is advancing with each iteration and you're not, your relative rating will go down. Maybe a 5 or 5.5 more than a 4 but definitely lower nonetheless.

I just watched Gametrailer's Review and they had mostly good things to say about Riptide.

A couple key words being a noticeable improvement over its predecessor, better narrative, more engaging, what the first Dead Island should have been. Of course there are still multiple bugs and like in the first game, constant combat can drag on. They gave it a 7.5. And with friends this will probably be over an 8 for me, just because of the added fun factor.

But I'll still wait for the price to drop.

It's not the same price. It's $10 less.
It is? Well that is good. Will make me get it that much earlier. I'm looking forward to playing it still, especially if I can get the same group together. Just don't want to pay up for a similar level experience.

The 1st one deserves good marks for being an innovative co-op experience but this looks like a great expansion pack rather than being deserving of being a full new retail game. And I think it might damage the long term prospects for the series as the name will be associated with both games rather than the succesful first.

Apart from some lame glitches I had no real problems with the first game. Some of the fetch quests were boring but the amazing atmosphere and environments made up for it IMO.

I agree. I had an amazing time in Banoi, and I still play it to this day. I will definitely buy Riptide, but not before it gets cheaper though.

Not buying this one. I'll just watch Uberhaxornova and the rest of the creatures Let's Play through it and laugh my butt off.

I stopped playing the first game almost as soon as I got to the city. Hoping this one can keep my attention better.

I'm not too far in, but it's loads of fun so far! Plus everything is even more beautiful! I could seriously just walk around outside for a while and not get bored

i didn't buy it. But I will definitely buy Dead Island 2, even though it feels like a FP Dead Rising, whereas Dying Light feel like what could have been Dead Island 2.
