"Dead Island" Game Becomes A Movie

By Garth Franklin

That was fast. Two days after the trailer for the upcoming video game "Dead Island" went viral and caused an internet sensation (at least two million Youtube views and counting), The Wrap reveals that "The Mummy" producer Sean Daniel ("Dazed and Confused," "The Wolf Man") is part of a group that acquired film rights to the as-yet-unreleased video game over a year ago.
The game's story follows a family that has the bad fortune to vacation in an island paradise during a contagious zombie outbreak. The family is cut off from the rest of the world and has to protect the other survivors and escape.
Daniel and Union Entertainment are currently working on trying to find the right script. The big question is if what works beautifully over three well-edited minutes could lose its impact if drawn out to feature length (a similar question is currently being asked about the game itself). Also, who in the world could possibly top this trailer, even in live-action form, as it's a marketing person's wet dream.

I liked Dead Island a lot more when it was called Left 4 Dead.

the game is not even out yet and Hollywood already wants to make a feature film?

this just reaks of direct to dvd crap for some reason

How is The Mummy successful?

Because it made some decent money the summer it came out.

Geez I love Zombies but this just seems like another Zombie game. Yea it had an interesting, artistic cinematic trailer but we have seen no gamepley footage or know anything about the story so what sets it apart from any other Zombie survival game that makes Hollywood jump on it so fast? Hey Hollywood come up with your own original Zombie film!

I haven't seen it!

I don't think that's safe for Hype.

It's been in the main post for the same thread in the game forum for days now and nothing has been done about it. It has no swearing or nudity. Yes, it's violent, but there's been worse that was considered fine.

That's kind of a disturbing basis for a video game

I've heard of it but never played it. I assumed it was just some commando type running around shooting aliens.

Not at all. He's basically an average Joe. He's an engineer and the only reason he's fighting the aliens is to find a way off the ship. He really doesn't go above and beyond the call of duty. However, he does in Dead Space 2 and it's glorious.

That sounds cool . Dead Island still sounds more disturbing to me though , it starts out with half the family getting killed and I assume you have to kill the zombie versions of them . It reminds me of 28 weeks later.

Dead Island you mean? :P

And trust me, Dead Space is still way, way worse.
