Anyone else been following this series?
I like the use of Man-Thing, I'd never seen his origin before and the first issue delivered nicely.

The stories are pretty simple, but still pretty nice, I didn't like how skinny he looked in the third one, didn't understand what was up with that... Maybe because he'd recently molted?

I'm sort of annoyed by the outrageously blatant rip-off of the Cryptkeeper... Not that he is all that bad, but he's almost the same, right down to the play on words...

Just reading a few of these tells me that there could be a good solo movie out of it yet, despite what I've heard of the horrendous one that is already out there.

I love it. It's Man-Thing finally done right, which hasnt been done since his appearance in Ultimate Marvel Team Up long ago. I've loved all of these revivals of b-list characters in Max form really. Terror, Inc. was great too.

And Digger or whatever his name is, isnt really a crypt keeper rip off. Pretty much all horror comics from back in the day had hosts like that, it's an archetype at this point. Crypt Keeper is just the most well known. In the comics he had two co-hosts, The Old Witch and The Vault Keeper, who also both acted exactly like he did.

Oh alright then, guess I'm a bit young then!
He still was cool, but I had that thought that came up is all.

Man-Thing definitely needed to be in MAX, any idea on how well the comic has been doing? This going to spawn more Man-Thing comics?

I love muck monsters....

And I've always loved the Man-Thind more when compared to Swamp Thing (whom I like as well)...

And Man-Thing appeared first... by one month... therefore, he's the original muck monster baby :word:

Oh yeah, I've been getting this mini as well... I hope it spawns an on-going.

:yay:

I hoping it spawns an on-going and maybe Dead of Night can become a platform for the darker side of Marvel, sort of like what they tried with Legion of Monsters.
I wouldn't mind this being followed up by a 4 part Morbius story.

That's not a bad idea...

I'd like to see a Werewolf by Night story as well... :word:  :word:

I've heard nothing but good things about it. Thinking of picking up all four parts this weekend...

I'm going to read them all in one pile myself, but it's by Aguire-Sacasa, so you know it'll be really good.

:yay:

I preordered the trade months ago and it won't be out for months more but I don't care because it's Aguire-Sacasa and he DOES rule.

I sat down and read them all in one sitting this afternoon... very good stuff.

Old school Marvel Monster horror books the way they should always be... wasn't too fond of the rotating artists, but it all came down to just good solid storytelling, which isn't surprising considering who the writer is. :word:

And speaking of Digger (I wasn't aware of this before because I hadn't read the books), but Roderick Krupp aka Digger is an established Marvel character who first appeared in Marvel's Tower of Shadows #1 from 1969, and then appeared in a few issues of Chamber of Darness around '71/72. He also appeared as a villain (teamed up with other monster type villains) in the West Coast Avengers (issue #40 and 77 to 79)...

So rather than being annoyed, you should applaud Aguire-Sacosa for his brilliant use of Marvel's history & characters into this wonderful horror book.

:yay:

Wow, "Dead of Night", I remember that as one of the reprint titles from the seventies. I hardly buy comics anymore, like the last stuff I bought included Ultimate collections of FF and Avengers 1&2, plus the collection of various Marvel Zombies, but this seems worth checking out. I got a real good deal in the early 80's on a bunch of the B&W Marvel monster mags, and have a soft spot for that type of material.

Digger was used in West Coast Avengers ? Wow, I was buying it at the time, but like most of what I bought, I didn't have the time to read it. I'll try to look for it the next time I'm at my storage space. One of the few comics I bought around 1970 was a Tower of Shadows issue that stuck in my memory. Soon after this I gave the small stack of comics I had to a neighbor because I was 9, and that was too old to be reading comics.:yay:

I don't think EC started the horror host thing. I have a few issues of Wanted that had a luciferian MC. Wanted is like a comic book version of TV's America's Most Wanted show. It started in the late forties, and had pretty good artists, including Mort Leav, who worked earlier for Timely.

I really have been into this miniseries as well. I wasn't going to pick it up until I saw that Roberto Sacasa was going to be writing it. He wrote a great run in Sensational Spider-Man and he didn't disappoint with some great horror. I was never really a Man-Thing fan but this was a nice mini to get to aquainted with the character.

They're revamping Devil-Slayer for this series pretty soon, according to Joe Q's last MyCup O' Joe. DBM mentioned it in another thread. I'm not really interested in it; just thought I'd give you guys a head's up.

Its NOT Eric Payne.

The New Guy is basically powerless.

It does, however, look cool.

Devil-Slayer would be a great character to re-launch..i liked the old one, but this could work.

Designs look solid.
