It got some acclaim at Sundance, and I confess I did nod a few times. :o

i hope someone complaints that there are stereotypical black people in the trailer...and not get the joke. it would be a great way to end this week. ;)

I remember the trailer they made for this years ago when they were trying to raise funds to get it made.

Yep! Been following this movie since that point and so happy to see it's finally made it. They actually filmed the movie here in my neighborhood here in Minne so can't wait to see it.

Hopefully it's as funny and thought provoking as many people have said.

I contributed to that campaign! Glad to see an actual film DID end up getting made! (I'd have been pissed if it hadn't! :cmad:)

:hehe:

can't wait to see it though.

I want the movie "Dear Tumblr". The trailer was hilarious.

he would like to see Dear Black People? so he would like to watch a movie about white people?

Nice to see another trailer for this. It feels like this has been in development forever or something.

You can tell the movie is totally targeting Tyler Perry too.

IN many regards, he should be admired when you read about his life and how he can independently make movies on the cheap and still make a profit. But he's also a detriment because I think there's a much better film maker in him by making more intellectual films. But nah.

I remember reading an interview with the makers of the film where they outright say this film is supposed to feel like the type of things you'd see before Perry blew up.

Yeah, black flicks used to be kinda preachy per Lee and Singleton but with Perry they're preachy in a whole other manner.

Yeah. I used to listen to Spill.com's rants (and raves when Madea's on the screen) how Tyler capitalizes on a certain formula and beats the horse dead with it.

That's why Lee Daniels (who I don't think is perfect but I admire his vision) and 'The Other" Steve McQueen* run circles around Tyler Perry.

Okay McQueen's stuff is kinda heavy but why not be..diverse and play around with genres. For example: Why not make a quirky 500 Days of Summer movie, with minorities in the leads? I don't think Tyler has it in him but for sure he can help produce and fund it. But he's not doing that. He's doing McG/Ratner level stuff when deep down, he can do better.

Our movies are either too heavy handed or too buffoonish. That is the long and short of it. Even foreign movies with black casts have some kinda lesson going on. I dig that a Selma movie is coming out, but we can't be "on" all the time.

Can't agree about Daniels. Meaning I think he's terrible right along with Perry. I don't know if Perry can do better. I can give him props for being a great businessman but I have no interest in his movies & tv shows. I do think he will be funding others more as time goes on.

I'll be seeing Dear White People (to bring it back on topic).

Ugh,I hate IMDB.People are giving this a 1 without even seeing it.
