DIAL Bought/Thought - May 2, 2012

I'm not sure if it's the best comic book movie ever, as Newsarama has stated; but, it did the best job of making a movie that resembles a comic book. Heck, it even had a hero vs. hero battle that can easily have been avoided with a talk between the combatants.

Yeah, but many "hero vs hero" battles in the comics could have been avoided with talking...lol :cwink:

BTW, who was the character in the final scene, between credits? I was thinking Thanos; but, another person thought it was the Skrulls. He's probably right, but I wasn't sure. (Also, did anyone stay to the very end of the credits? I didn't, but didn't feel like there would be an additional scene. Did I miss anything?)

It's Thanos... you can just tell by his grin after the "courting with Death" comment...

I still haven't been able to finish watching my Green Lantern DVD. It's just so bad.

Yeah... I watched it last month... hoping the bad hype was just whiny fanboys... nope, it's really that awful... ugh.

:csad:

It's Thanos. The dude's purple.

Anyway, I liked the easily avoidable fight scene between heroes. It's not as incredibly clichéd in the movies as it is in the comics, so it worked. Now, if they've still got Thor tossing Iron Man around for no apparent reason by Avengers 3, then we'll have a problem. ;)

Yeah, well that movie will probably be based on Civil War anyway.

I liked that line too. I hope she's in the sequel as well. Angelina Jolie for Mistress Death! She does her best acting with her mouth closed.:o

The only thing about Thranos... I swear he looked red to me.

I was very confused for a second.

If Loki was the villain of the first movie and Thanos is pretty much locked in as the next movie's villain, where the hell are we gonna fit Kang and Ultron and the Masters of Evil if Marvel spends a whole movie having the Avengers fight each other over nonsense?

By then, they will have made so much money, they won't give a s**t.

I think Ultron would work best for a villian in part 3...you set up the vision in part 2 and then plant the seeds for ultron within that story.

I have a feeling that movie Vision is going to be built by Tony, Banner and a debuting Hank Pym. He may end up being based off of Coulson's brain patterns, so all the Coulson fanboys can **** their pants.

I'm holding out for Kang in the third movie, though I feel like some version of the Masters of Evil would be more likely. Take some time to establish more villains in the MCU, and just make play up the existence of a "counter" Avengers.

But why? The Vision sort of makes sense as a robot sent to infiltrate the Avengers. It makes a bit less sense as a robot that Tony Stark just randomly decided to slap together one day.

Not just randomly slap together...he was part of the team and Tony was clearly affected by his death. So much so that Cap had to talk to him about how to deal with it, just like Peggy did for him in CA:TFA.

And you think Tony's that immature and... weird, for lack of a better term, that he'd build a robot to pretend to be Coulson? I'm not seeing it.

I was really hoping Thor would just lay his hammer down on Hulk's chest and end the fight before it even began

:o

Hulk would have torn the helicarrier apart getting out from under Thor's hammer.

Keep in mind they have already set up Phineas Horton in Captain America First Avenger and the synthetic man when they show what looks like Jim Hammond on display at the worlds fair.

If i were them, i would make it so Ultron appears as a sort of computer virus that evolves..

I'm not too picky how they do it with all the retcons we've seen

Eh, I guess as long as the end result is cool and familiar enough to be recognizable, I wouldn't mind. Even giving him Coulson's brain patterns wouldn't bother me, since the whole point of the Vision is that he transcends his original brain patterns and mission and develops his own identity.

I heard an interesting rumour actually that Coulson isn't dead. That Fury faked it to spur the Avengers on. You'd have to wonder where he got the bloodied cards from so fast.

Finally caught up on Red Lantern #3-9. It's a book I still enjoy, and one that I find more entertaining than the other Green Lantern titles; but, it's also a book that seems to be dragging its heels. Nine issues, and not a whole lot has happened. A person could easily sum up the nine issues in a few paragraphs; because a great deal of this book has been Atrocitus moaning and complaining. The book looks good, though.

Still, has a storyline even been completed yet? Plus, it's another DC title that is tied into some other books. Now, this book is showing up in Stormwatch. (THAT is such a bad title. Yet, I keep getting it; because, of the tie-ins to other titles, like Superman.)

3.5 out of 5

I was very confused for a second.

If it makes you feel any better, I thought he was red as well, and for a brief moment, I thought it might have been the Red Skull... :o

:csad:

I don't know what was going on in your theaters but he looked clearly like Thanos in mine.

Well, I wasn't expecting Thanos (I hadn't read any of the spoiler crap), so when I saw his face, initially, I saw red, but I also recognized his grin, I was briefly confused, and then very excited...

:yay:

Aren't we talking about comics that came out this week?

I've been very pleased by EOTE so far. It def has been better than AvX for sure even though it hasn't had the Avengers playing as big a role as Spider-Island. I do enjoy the Spidey/Widow/Sable team up though. Sable is a Spidey ally favorite of mine. It seems like she may have an attraction to the web head but backed off once he mentioned MJ but not by name.

Which brings me to my next point....a lot of folks complain about Carlie Cooper and MJ being exiled shortly after Big Time launched but now you get a moment where Slott hammers home the point that everything that drives Peter during this crisis is Mary Jane. Yet, you hear none of the complainers come out and give credit where credit is due.....friggin babies.

Don't know if you lumped me into that group, but the thing is I haven't had much time to post, so I haven't really address this, but, yes, I am very happy at the latest developments between Pete & MJ that Slott has written. It goes in with the overall great job he has done since he has taken over. I really hope something comes out of this!

That said...

I think, since we do have a single Spidey, it would be very interesting to see something develop between Spidey & Silver Sable, particularly the way she's been acting in this arc. It might be fun to explore, but you know ultimately it would not work out.

OK, and since we are talking The Avengers movie, I flat out LOVED this flick! It was a fun ride from beginning to end (post credits! :cwink:). I loved the banter and how well the characters, that were all set up in separate movies, all interacted. Also liked the nods to the comic, like how the original team was formed in the comic because Loki manipulated Hulk and how that was his plan on the helicarrier, or how in the comics Hawkeye started out as a villain and in the movie at the beginning he serves the bad guys.

And it was so funny! Hulk confronting Loki had my laughing hysterical! Hope to see it again tomorrow!
