That's why Dan Slott has been trying to rev up fans on SHH here; THE THING sells abysmally bad and is on the chopping block, despite it being a great book.

I've heard plenty of fans who are die-hards who buy an entire line of comics, or an entire company's brand, out of habit or to maintain collections or whatever. While that is fine, it really doesn't help out "mainstream" books when they suck. Because if they continue to sell well, nothing will change and the suckitude will continue. I've always voted with my wallet. But that is probably atypical; which is the only way to explain how even terrible issues of NA (such as #2) sell so well.

The amount of people who buy an entire company's brand is so small as to not even make an impact. I never see anyone in my comic store buy the amount of comics I do; and, I would venture a guess that there are less than 10 who do.

I do believe your first statement is more accurate. I would think if you buy an issue #1 of a miniseries, you are very inclined to finish the series. (And, in regular series, I think many people will buy to finish off a storyline, but not necessarily continue to purchase the book if it's bad beyond that.)

All that said, I think Thing is better than She-Hulk, even. I cannot fathom why people continue to ignore the book. Sadly, maybe the comic would have sold better as a miniseries. But, I would really think that the one comic I really complained about, Doc Samson, is doing much worse in sales, especially after issue #1....it's that bad.

Weird. DBM used to buy everything Marvel printed for a while, and every time I asked him why he would say something to the effect of, "I don't know, it doesn't hurt my wallet and I want to show Marvel I have hope for them." But I think he was secretly crying in front of his keyboard, just barely stopping himself from following with "Please... make me stop!"

So true. So true.

That was basically the reason. I love Marvel comics, and I have the money to spend. But I quite doing that a year or two ago. Too many of the comics sucked. So I switched over (though I should have been doing it all along) to only buying the comics that were good. And I've found a hell of a lot of indie/small press comics to read because of it. So as Marvel continues to go down hill, my not exactly insignificant, comics budget will get directed towards the indies.

Yeah. A lot. I saw a sketch variant going for $10 once on the day it came out.

The only two DC titles I pick up with any regularity are Teen Titans, JSA and Legion of Superheroes. And I dropped TT and JSA because of IC and OYL and may be dropping LoS if this Supergirl thing doesn't pay off. I pick up the occasional miniseries as well.

DC's just never really appealed to me. I'm just a Marvel guy pretty much.

Though I do pick up almost every Vertigo series as they start out. I loved Trigger but it got cancelled.

You should try Checkmate out. It's basically SHIELD at DC with the added bonus of having Alan Scott as one of its leaders. Although they gave him an eyepatch which was just lame in so many ways. The comic itself looks like it'll be good, though.

#1 just came out, as SIAT mentioned. The main plot of the first arc is looking like the newly reorganized Checkmate will be in conflict with China, which is currently stocking up on metahumans of its own. Rumors abound that Arsenal may be joining, too, if that does anything for you.
