Since this was begining to get popular in the Digimon Thread i decided to make one for how a Digimon movie could be made in the vein of Super 8 and Alice.
digivice.jpg

What we've been discussing:
Mix Super 8 with Tron and Transformers with a healthy dose of Godzilla and E.T. and we've got ourselves a damn movie.

I want to make this happen so bad it's physically painful.
Don't forget to add a little of Alice in Wonderland, in least the visuals, and the worlds would be cool to see in live action, i remember there was one with a giant Teddy Bear, but wich story arc should they use? I'm assuming they would make it based on the first season, i think they could mix Devimon and Myotismon's arcs.
I don't think making more than one movie set during the time of the first season could work because they're allways the same age and kids age fast so if they toke 2 years to make a sequel they would be more ready to make a movie based on season 02 than season 1.:o
The movie would be cool as a stand alone a la super 8
Very much Alice in Wonderland with plugs and wires and stuff. Just have the art department go crazy on the mecha-organic biosphere.

I think they should open the movie by having the first twenty minutes or so be the "terrorist bombing" incident that they fleshed out during the first animated movie, then have the rest of it be a condensed version of Season 1 which ends in a battle with possibly Devimon and stuff in the real world.

Then just go balls out on the sequel with the internet assault with Diaboromon where they learn the origin of the digital world through their coding fathers. Every two or three movies they could always recast with a new group of Digidestined based on the different show seasons. With how much technology is prevalent throughout the world, I think it could end up being really cool.
What about:
Film 1: Adaptations of devimon and entemon arcs, but without entemon, just the stuff like skull greymon and them returning to their world things.
Film 2: The complete Myotismon arc
Film 3: Internet assault and Diaboromon that leads to them going back to the digi world and fight the masters
Then they could do what you proposed, new kids, new stories
SkullGreymon_b.jpg
If we immediately follow up Devimon with Myotismon movie-wise then it would seem odd because of how close the public would perceive these characters to be. We could have the kids be continuously returning to the Digital World and ignoring the real world until Myotismon breaks out and starts attacking the real world.

At the end the Destined could decide to stay home and not return because they realize that if they don't then they'll miss out on the rest of their lives (social-networking commentary wink-wink). That way it feel more interesting and desperate when Diaboromon starts attacking the real world because the kids realize that they can't keep the worlds away from each other forever without them converging at some point. If we end either this series or the second series with them sealing the digital world off then it would give Tikato cause to try to create Digimon in the real world and open the portal.

Also, I hate Etemon too. lol
I don't think the masters are really necessary so:
Film 1: Devimon's arc with skullgreymon and other things from Etemon's arc
Film 2: Diaboromon and the network attack, that could make a badass sequel not set in the digiworld but in real one.
Film 3: Myotismon occupying the place of many of the masters and to be more creative as this movie would be set in the digi world and in the real world (both place already used in the first 2 movies) they could make a climax with apocalypmon or something similar, just to add and interesting new place and make this movie also creative.
I just think myotismon is one of the most interesting villains and that for me the most interesting characters from the masters arc can be changed as working for myotismon (like that pinoquio guy)
I like SkullGreymon, but I don't want him forced ala Venom in SM3. I was structuring the films in terms of:

Film 1.) Introduce Champion Level during terrorist bombing, MetalGreymon at climax in fight with Devimon in the Digital World.
Film 2.) Introduce WarGreymon at climax in Fight with Myotismon in the real world.
Film 3.) Introduce Omnimon at climax of internet fight.

It's was just that I liked the villians in that order, it's just the best way I could see them introducing the various digivolution stages organically without overloading the audience with "And now he becomes a much BIGGER monster!", you know?
there's more to the series than season one, hence a lot of material to cover, and from an aspiring filmmaker's point of view, I would like to be able to get a little creative with an adaptation. like when a director adapts a comic book, you have an entire continuity to adapt, but you're still an artist.
Let's talk:oldrazz:

LET'S DO THIS.

Step One: Who do we want writing this?

We could always follow suit and get Alex Kurtsman and Robert Orci to do it. :p

i say get Guillermo Del Toro executive produce. his involvment in movies like kung fu panda really elevates the quality without him having to direct, which he would never find the time to do. as for director, Shusuke Kaneko ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shūsuke_Kaneko) or Joseph Kosinski (tron legacy) if you want to go for more mainstream up and comer. Kurtzman and orchi sound like a good call for writing, they know how to keep it light and fun without pandering.

I agree with having Del Toro produce; it feels like he would really get the concept of this. I almost suggest Kosinski as director as well, but I don't know how he'd do with child actors.

Alas, I do have a massive bias towards Tron related stuff, so how about getting Daft Punk to do the music?

I know that Spielber MUST produce it if it's ever made (wish is unlikelly unless one of use become film directors)
They should find a director that knows what he's doing and had a trusted team of writers, and the visual and special effects department could be very creative.
While i think that the evoluting part doesn't work very well in live action the idea of kids in a monster world that is dangerous and also a place you would like to be true could be very interesting. Yet evolution in digimon should stay in the film as its the essence of Digimon

In digimon no, sorry:dry:

I suppose a Digimon live-action movie could work. I don't know about adapting an individual series though. The overall concept is workable though.

Wouldn't Pokemon have a better chance of being made before Digimon ?

@Lord Why not? I think it would be nice to have a somewhat electronic score for this movie.

@Thundercrack85 Kind of a kid's movie, but basically in the spirit of Spielberg or Super 8. I personally didn't like Digimon Savers. It started to feel like every other anime to me at that point.

eh, i think digimon has more of a cinematic approach. pokemon is essentially glorified dog fights without much of a story beyond a bunch of 11 years old going out on roadtrips to partake in said dogfights. as fun as the games are, you can't deny that that's basically pokemon in a nutshell. and if not daft punk for the score, maybe trent reznor?

I agree Savers got a little bland, but having older characters did let them be more involved in the action. I guess you could go somewhere in the middle, and have the kids be in their mid teens.

I agree.

Would Trent Reznor do a kids' movie? His score's might not be frantic enough for this movie.

Digimon would make for a good trilogy movie. But I doubt we will ever see it.

Um....... I'm sorry I was a big fan of Digimon but seriously I just don't think a Live action movie based on Anime's Series work. Look at Dragonball actually no don't look at it that movie was crap. Um Avatar? Once again crap um.... Aeon Flux? Once again it wasn't very good. So I really don't want them to ruin this series due to making a live action movie.

Anything can be garbage unless done well. That's kind of the point, actually.

In each of your examples they didn't follow the original creations and went so far away from it because they went but the theory that "Nobody's going to understand any of this **** so why don't we try to make it more accessible?" The problem with this way of thinking is that if it wasn't understandable or a great story, then it wouldn't have been popular to begin with.

Pokemon's name value>>>>Digimon's name value.

Digimon would make a better movie, but Digimon will only get the greenlight after a successful Pokemon movie.

Not quite. By the time we get around to making this film Pokemon won't be as popular as it is now. Hell, it's nowhere near as popular as it was, so one could argue that it already happened.

Also I highly doubt that they would make a Pokemon movie. It's not cinematic enough.

Digimon was successful when they had pocketmonsters out. Since they dont do it anymore you dont really hear about it. Plus kids would go crazy over the different types of digimon. Espically digivolving.

Agreed.

The Pokemon brand is far more recognisable to the average person.

And Hershey's chocolate is more recognizable than Discworld.

It's not the recognition that I'm focused on, it's the ability to make a great, possibly money-making story with it.

My point is that it's more likely we'll see a Pokemon movie first.

Did I not say Digimon would make a better movie?

The first Digimon Movie sucked, but the TV shows up through the fourth generation were not that bad though. I don't mind an original story with a totally different group of Digidestine on their own quest, no rehash of any prior seasons.

I didn't mean to say that you did not agree, I was just pointing out that popularity isn't everything. I doubt we'll see a Pokemon movie first because it doesn't lend itself to film very well.

I actually quite liked the first movie and would still like to see the original characters, but am happy that someone with a different point of view is willing to throw in their chips.

Tell me, if they were to do a Digimon movie with original characters how would you suggest that they go about doing that?
