Digital Projection vs....regular projection

If it's relevant do you always make sure to view digitally?

  • Yes, I'm paying out the ass for this movie, it better look fan-tas-tic

  • Meh, I could go either way....it's all the same

  • I don't care about it at all, period

  • The **** is "dee-gee-tahl?"

When you go to the theatre, if it offers a choice, do you more than likely try to choose the digital showing of a flick, or do you not care? By all rights every showing should be digital nowadays, yet the AMC near my place has like half the showings of First Class in DP and the other half as just the old school kind, complete with scratches and hairs on the lens I assume.

I prefer digital but if the movie is new it doesn't matter. My Cinemark has half the shows in reels as well.

*Waits until the cinema snobs show up to say that movies should only be shown on film*

It doesn't matter to me. I think all the theaters around me have upgraded to only digital projection for the most part.

How do you figure that? The cost to install DLPs, new screens, servers, TMS racks and so forth, is huge. On top of that, the demand for such gear has outpaced the supply over the past year, so even if the money's there, the waiting list is long and the equipment sits on backorder.
