Disco Elysium - Detective CRPG

Played nearly two hours of what may end up being my personal GOTY. An open world point-and-click adventure/RPG in a detective noir setting with some Pixar's Inside Out.

There's no combat so its gameplay mechanics are heavily based on an innovative dialogue system. Actually, the "fights" are through dice-rolling skill checks. After five minutes into the game, I already died from a heart attack after trying to get my necktie from a ceiling fan because I failed the check on one of my motoric skills. And later I died again after crashing into an old woman in a wheelchair because I ran away from an awkward conversation with an NPC...

Game definitely feels like a true Planescape: Torment successor. It also reminds me of Sanitarium. I'll ask for my Steam refund and get it on GOG during the holiday sale next month.

I'm siding with the former devs and will ignore ZA/UM's next game (Zero Parades).

For anyone curious about the "spin-off" studios and possible spiritual successors to DE:

• Red Info: New studio from lead writer Robert Kurvitz and art director Aleksander Rostov. Not much info on the game, but it is funded by NetEase.
• Summer Eternal: Co-founded by writers Argo Tuulik and Dora Klindžić.
