If this passes, can we say goodbye to and all across the internet? Goodbye to Thatguywiththeglasses, Cinemassacre, Redlettermedia, etc?

I think the Millenium act protects against reviews/parodies, but I think the bill is so vaguely worded that they can shut them down without having to consult it. They might be shut down, but they should be able to bring them back, I think.

All Anon and those who use similar tactics do is justify arguments for increasing internet security and having harsher punishments for internet crime. They are counterproductive trolls.

I have said this every single time Anon has done anything ever. Every time they threaten to hack or actually hack someone or some business they are just justifying these extreme measures.

Is it unrealistic to think that the Anons could come across some horrid or embarassing secrets--backed by videos, pictures etc.--on the offenders that would allow them to effectively blackmail the offenders?

I doubt it will. The bill is immensely unpopular on the internet. And as GoDaddy found out, supporting it is bad for business. And then there are the courts. Google, Ebay, Facebook and Twitter won't take it lying down, and they have a lot of lawyers.

It's like trying to fight prostitution or people that get high on THC. It won't work, you'll spend far more trying to fight it then will ever be saved by companies.

Legality issues aside, you do have to look at things logically. This isn't a fight you can win no matter what you try and do to enforce it (unless you're willing to say shut down the internet). Do what any retail shop does, place a mark up for shrinkage and try and enforce it where it's obvious and pick battles you can actually win.

Tons of companies are pulling they're support for SOPA because their customers are up in arms over this and threatening boycott. GoDaddy lost 20,000+ domains in less than a week.

And other companies like Gibson guitar (or was it Fender) are pissed because they were put on the list without their permission.

I don't know if that hinders SOPA's chance of passage or not. But we'll see.

I am sure all of you are aware of the anti-piracy bill that is waiting to be passed. I just want to know where you all stand on the subject.

Me personally, I think that it's going to be the destruction of what we know as the "Internet" The fact that the government is going to have control over what we as Americans post or put on the internet is bull crap. I understand that piracy is a big deal, and that it is a "problem" but I also believe that having the gov. monitor the web is taking it to far, and will turn into a HUGE deal when peoples opinions are being stripped from them, just because the government deems it wrong, or bad. Anyways, wanted to see what everyone here thought...

If you have watched the House of Representative meetings, it's scary to listen to them not knowing what hell they're doing, and what this bill will do.

I just hope it doesn't go through. All sorts of issues with this.

Everything worth stealing has already been stolen since modern music sucks ass.

All I know is if that people want to get free **** on the internet, they're going to get it. People always find a way. This is just going to be a huge inconvenience to those that aren't thieves and a waste of effort and time.

The baseball hearings just showed how clueless those twits in the government are. Mr. Palmery? Dolts.

Things like this inevitably happen when you let people legislate things they barely comprehend. This law is being driven by corporate interests as well, which is usually a very bad sign.

It's the worst thing ever created. Anyone who is for it should be banned from the internet.

Cuz, it ain't about Piracy.

It's not gonna go through, and if it does, Anon will be relentless.

The National Defence Authorization Act however... lol.

This is what we really need though.

Otherwise, how else will the rich stay rich?

I would find it rather amusing if both of these pretty dictatorial bills end up being passed under Obama, who was supposed to be our savior from GW's "fascism".

If Obama lets this pass. Then I hope people make a big deal about it. Obama letting this pass could be the one thing that stops him from getting a second term. But based on Obama previous lies & him saying he would not allow internet censorship. Expect this to pass. Since that will just be another lie of his
