The Soviets and Americans were approaching upon him, his 1000 year empire was over, the Soviets were going to torture him, his supplies were cut off, bombing runs were daily in Berlin, Hungary, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Albania, Croatia, Italy, Finland and Siam surrendered, Romania quit the Axis and joined the Allied Powers, and Germany was next.

Hence why he shot himself.
