I see people are discussing the USO scene, but I really want to focus on the song itself, think it worth a thread to talk about though.

I went to look it up and seems Disney is involved, if that's the case then they had brought some amazing elements into Marvel Studio's films, at least this one so far. Not a long time ago, some people were still complaining that Disney might bring down Marvel's film by making it less violence and more childish (no sense at all btw), and now it proved that the fact is the other way around, Disney's helping the films to achieve more.

I understand this film is not contributed by Disney, Avengers will be the first though. I'm just amazed that the studio can actually manage to offer more other than financial support. Although, not every superhero movies are the musical type, it worked on this one anyway~

Anyhow, really like this song, had been stuck in my head for 3 days, really enjoy it~

Song was written by Alan Menken, the guy responsible for all the music in the Disney flicks in the 90's like Mermaid, Aladdin etc, most recently did Rapunzel, the dude's won several Oscars. Bit of trivia for ya. ;)

I hope Star Spangled Man is up for the Oscar for Best Original Song. What other competition does it have, I'm sure the few competitors aren't as catchy. :D

Alan Menken is almost guaranteed to be nominated with just about anything he writes so it wouldn't surprise me at all if it were to be nominated.

Does the Oscars still do live numbers to promote the Best Song nominees? Because if they do, and if Menken IS nominated for it... how cool would it be to see the Oscar telecast get the Rockettes to do up a big old-fashioned performance of it? (That was my favorite part of it -- the period detail of the way it was produced.)

I saw the film on Tuesday and I've been humming it ever since. I'm even thinking of buying the soundtrack lol.

That was the best song and dance number of any film this year! In fact, the kid in front of me was actually humming it as we walked out of the theatre tonight after the Avengers clip.

I love how they balanced a great score with multiple stuff, even John Philip Sousa stuff.

Glad to other people love that song as well.

I can't stop humming it and have a pathological need to learn the words so I can sing it properly.

I hope that the Star Spangled Man actually becomes an anthem for the US army or navy like other marches such as Anchors Aweigh etc. Actually even the Captain America march would be great for that.

Why, because a guy who did Disney songs did the USO song?

Well there was actually a huge Disney music department logo (or whatever that was) in the credits, and yes because it was from Alan Menken....so I think Disney is involved.

Yeah, I can see that happening because the song is about the Star Spangled Man, not Capt. America (even though it is allured to Cap). It's a very catchy song and a terrific one at that. Hopefully it will earn an Oscar because it definitely deserves it.

Yeah it's not going to catch on because, as pitch perfect as it was for the 40's, it's not considered the coolest thing around for army guys to listen to show tunes.

And you don't think Anchors Aweigh, the Marines' Hymn and other similar songs that are still played today sound like show tunes? The fact is they all sound similar, and it is the orchestral arrangement that will give it its military feel.

I LOVE the song. I hope it wins the oscar for best song. Somethings amiss if it's not even nominated. Listened to it 50 times on my ipod since the soundtrack was released.

I love the song - but then, I love Alan Menken, so this is hardly news.

They aren't exactly the same, no.

Not to mention Anchors Aweigh and the Marines Hymn have a lot of history behind them. I don't think they'd be quite as embraced without that.

Dude, I had to buy the soundtrack immediately after my last screening and I'm guessing a big part of that was thanks to the "Star Spangled Man" (with a plan). That said, it didn't hurt that the score was by far the best I'd heard for recent superhero movies, with the possible exception of some of Hans Zimmer's Batman music.
