Disney remaking 'Pete's Dragon'

I hope theres a scene where the dragon rides his skateboard to Wendy's.

I wasn't a big fan of the original, but it's irritating that Disney picked this film, out of all their live-action catalogue titles, to remake. At least this won't be a musical.

What's next, a remake of The Apple Dumpling Gang? No Deposit No Return? I'm sure people are chomping at the bit for a remake of Never Cry Wolf either...

As long as they never remake 'Song of the South', they can do whatever they want in my book.

I wonder if the Dragon will be realistic (Smaug) or will still look like a toon?

I suppose they will be going with a realistic looking dragon which will probably be more Draco in Dragonheart looking than Hobbit Smaug looking. If cgi of today existed when Pete's Dragon was made Disney would have probably went with the cgi version over animated but their choices were very limited back then.

Very early look at PETE'S DRAGON makes clear it is the polar opposite of the campy '70s version of the film. #D23Expo

Are they keeping "Candle on the Water" in the movie? Please say yes.

Rumor has it, the song will be played over the credits and Sia will be doing the cover. :o

Of course. Helen Reddy is bring brought back to perform it. ;)

11:45 a.m. Bailey says the next film, a remake of live-action and animation mix Pete’s Dragon, is a movie he never thought they’d remake. “Like many great boy and his dog—or boy and his dragon—stories, this one will make you laugh and make you cry.”

11:47 a.m. Pete’s Dragon star Bryce Dallas Howard comes onstage. “Disney is killing it!” She cries. “I get to play a character who acts opposite Robert Redford and a dragon,” she enthuses. “I was obsessed with Pete’s Dragon as a kid. I was excited about the notion that I was going to get to kind of re-feel this story again, because when I watched that story as a child, it does something to your core.”

11:50 a.m. We get a sneak peek at an exclusive trailer of David Lowery’s Pete’s Dragon. It opens with Howard and Redford’s character discussing a little boy who’s been living alone in the forest — except, as Howard points out, he says he wasn’t alone. No real glimpse of the dragon himself, but it ends with a teasing shot of a small hand petting something enormous and furry.

I will attempt to contain all giggles regarding that last line in the 11:50am slot.

I'm really looking forward to this. I remember watching Pete's Dragon on Disney channel back in the day.

Believe it or not, David Lowery and Toby Halbrooks apparently wrote the script as a passion project and then went to Disney. That doesn't necessarily mean Disney wasn't looking at remaking this on their own. There's a chance they heard about Disney's interest in a Pete's Dragon remake through the grapevine of agents and such and came up with a unique idea for it that became a passion project, but regardless, Lowery and Halbrooks set up a meeting with Disney, pitched their Pete's Dragon and surprised Disney with a first draft.

This sounds pretty good to me. This is exactly the type of movie that should be getting remade. They can actually improve upon the original.

And I saw somebody mention remaking The Apple Dumpling Gang. And now I'm torn over said prospect. On one hand, I don't really want to see anyone else as Amos and Theodore. On the other hand, part of me would be interested in a pseudo-reboot with new actors telling the continued adventures of the duo...

Really want to see footage for this.

Where dat footage, Disney?

Kinda hoping the dragon is at least as cute as Drogon was last season. The dragon had a kinda cutsey look in the old cartoon-live action version, so I'm hoping it caries through to this one.

It'll probably look more kid-friendly than Drogon. I'm thinking it'll look like the dragon from Eragon, if you ever saw that train wreck of a movie.
