Was he gay, related or just stupid?
This actually explains a lot. Like our equal admiration for Shailene Woodley attractiveness. No, I'm the gay one.![]()
I'm not even gay and I crush on Keira. She's just too awesome not to.
I am happy you liked it. Probably my favorite film from last year.Speaking of the lovely Keira, I watched Begin Again. A surprisingly good, feel good film. I downloaded a couple of the songs of course.
What was the original ending?I am happy you liked it. Probably my favorite film from last year.
Still wish they hadn't changed the ending though.
Not sure, but the scene with Keira and Ruffalo on the street after the record meeting originally ended with them kissing. As opposed to the scene where she basically lets the moment pass. They did a few reshoots a year later, so I assume it had to do with that. Love it though. What was the original ending?
I would have preferred a kiss as well. Not sure, but the scene with Keira and Ruffalo on the street after the record meeting originally ended with them kissing. I'm not sure if there's any truth to this, but I heard somewhere that this film was originally intended to be a full-on live-action remake, INCLUDING the musical portions, before Branagh decided fairly late in the game to nix the musical sequences to have more time to devote to character development, and that's why Helena Bonham Carter and Lily James had already recorded songs for it. If that is the case, while I do think he made the right move as the reason I prefer this over the animated version is the character work, there is certainly a part of me that would've liked to see it remain a musical.Watched this last night. I loved it and loved Lily James's performance. But then I knew I would as I'm a big fan of hers. It's wonderful to know that Disney managed to get such a beautiful and sweet Cinderella for the live action version.
The only things I would've liked are
1) Cinderella to sing "A dream is a wish your heart makes" in the film itself rather than only over the end credits
I actually liked the film's take more because it was as if finding the silver linings in every situation was Cinderella's own superpower. I've seen some people compare this to Ever After, and how Danielle (Cinderella) fights back at every turn in that movie, but honestly, while I love Ever After, this is basically a fairy tale for abuse victims. In real life, "fighting back" in these situations isn't the wise option for a lot of people. The idea that Ella can find the joy even in her terrible circumstances and not become vindictive or defiant is the more aspirational approach to this kind of story, imo, and that quality is partially what attracts the Prince to her in the first place.3) Although she was always trying to be kind, I would've liked to have seen Cinderella protest a bit more that she was turned into a servant, or that she wasn't even allowed to eat at the same table as the others. Perhaps if her father had still been in the house but was very ill, you might understand why she might make more of an effort so as not to upset the peace or upset her father. Even if she did protest more or do things less willingly, that wouldn't have made her unkind.
You can see in Blanchett's performance that Cinderella's behavior when they return home from the ball has her suspecting. She probably just searched the loft (where Cinderella was living) for any evidence to support her theory. One thing I wanted to know is how Lady Tremaine discovered the glass slipper hidden underneath the floorboards. Why would she even think to look under there? Did she somehow suspect that Cinderella was the mystery princess?
Because it wasn't in Ella's power to "let" that happen. Kit obviously had zero interest in either of the step-sisters. Tremaine simply realized Ella was now her (and her daughters') golden ticket to the palace. Also, why the Stepmother initially accept that Cinderella was going to marry the Prince and requested that she would be made head of the kingdom and that her daughters would be married off to nobility? Why didn't Tremaine simply try to blackmail Ella into letting one of the ugly sisters marry Kit instead?
That was her taking ownership of the name and not allowing it to hurt her anymore. And no, I'm sure she'll still go by Ella. And when the Prince asked her her name at the end, she answered that she is Cinderella. Why didn't she say she was Ella? Had she accepted the nickname Cinderella by then? And would she continue to use that afterwards?
