Disney to bring Cinderella back in live action

I'm not even gay and I crush on Keira. She's just too awesome not to.

Speaking of the lovely Keira, I watched Begin Again. A surprisingly good, feel good film. I downloaded a couple of the songs of course.

I am happy you liked it. Probably my favorite film from last year. :yay:

Still wish they hadn't changed the ending though.

What was the original ending?
Not sure, but the scene with Keira and Ruffalo on the street after the record meeting originally ended with them kissing. As opposed to the scene where she basically lets the moment pass. They did a few reshoots a year later, so I assume it had to do with that. Love it though.

I would have preferred a kiss as well.

Damn, that's a long wait (by today's standards)! I was sure it would be coming toward the end of next month or early August at the latest. :(

Yeah, that is a while off. We just got Kingsman, went came out only a month before.

Wow. Really taking their time with this one. Hopefully we get some nice exclusives.

Watched this last night. I loved it and loved Lily James's performance. But then I knew I would as I'm a big fan of hers. It's wonderful to know that Disney managed to get such a beautiful and sweet Cinderella for the live action version.

The only things I would've liked are

1) Cinderella to sing "A dream is a wish your heart makes" in the film itself rather than only over the end credits

2) An extra hour added on so that we could spend more time in that world. Maybe Cinderella could go to 3 balls like she sometimes does in some versions of the fairy tale. The first one would be where she remembers the clock and gets back in time easily. The second would be when she leaves it rather late and has to walk part of the way, and the 3rd would be right on the stroke of midnight when everything is about to change back.

3) Although she was always trying to be kind, I would've liked to have seen Cinderella protest a bit more that she was turned into a servant, or that she wasn't even allowed to eat at the same table as the others. Perhaps if her father had still been in the house but was very ill, you might understand why she might make more of an effort so as not to upset the peace or upset her father. Even if she did protest more or do things less willingly, that wouldn't have made her unkind.

One thing I wanted to know is how Lady Tremaine discovered the glass slipper hidden underneath the floorboards. Why would she even think to look under there? Did she somehow suspect that Cinderella was the mystery princess?

Also, why the Stepmother initially accept that Cinderella was going to marry the Prince and requested that she would be made head of the kingdom and that her daughters would be married off to nobility? Why didn't Tremaine simply try to blackmail Ella into letting one of the ugly sisters marry Kit instead?

And when the Prince asked her her name at the end, she answered that she is Cinderella. Why didn't she say she was Ella? Had she accepted the nickname Cinderella by then? And would she continue to use that afterwards?

I wouldn't mind a sequel to this film where we see how Cinderella and Kit rule the kingdom. Perhaps the wicked stepmother and her daughters could return to make trouble or even try to depose the king and queen somehow.

I'm not sure if there's any truth to this, but I heard somewhere that this film was originally intended to be a full-on live-action remake, INCLUDING the musical portions, before Branagh decided fairly late in the game to nix the musical sequences to have more time to devote to character development, and that's why Helena Bonham Carter and Lily James had already recorded songs for it. If that is the case, while I do think he made the right move as the reason I prefer this over the animated version is the character work, there is certainly a part of me that would've liked to see it remain a musical.

I actually liked the film's take more because it was as if finding the silver linings in every situation was Cinderella's own superpower. I've seen some people compare this to Ever After, and how Danielle (Cinderella) fights back at every turn in that movie, but honestly, while I love Ever After, this is basically a fairy tale for abuse victims. In real life, "fighting back" in these situations isn't the wise option for a lot of people. The idea that Ella can find the joy even in her terrible circumstances and not become vindictive or defiant is the more aspirational approach to this kind of story, imo, and that quality is partially what attracts the Prince to her in the first place.

One thing I wanted to know is how Lady Tremaine discovered the glass slipper hidden underneath the floorboards. Why would she even think to look under there? Did she somehow suspect that Cinderella was the mystery princess?
You can see in Blanchett's performance that Cinderella's behavior when they return home from the ball has her suspecting. She probably just searched the loft (where Cinderella was living) for any evidence to support her theory.

Because it wasn't in Ella's power to "let" that happen. Kit obviously had zero interest in either of the step-sisters. Tremaine simply realized Ella was now her (and her daughters') golden ticket to the palace.

And when the Prince asked her her name at the end, she answered that she is Cinderella. Why didn't she say she was Ella? Had she accepted the nickname Cinderella by then? And would she continue to use that afterwards?
That was her taking ownership of the name and not allowing it to hurt her anymore. And no, I'm sure she'll still go by Ella.

Oh, I didn't want the movie to be like Ever After. Definitely not that. I do like that she could find joy and always turn the other cheek and not become vindictive or defiant. I wasn't suggesting she do that. Just that she might show sometimes that she wasn't completely happy with the situation as that would show more of her humanity.

I actually like some of these deleted scenes like this one where it does show some of that.

Cinderella appears to be actually pretty strong to carry those buckets of water on her back like that.

In fact, I like all the deleted scenes I've watched so far and wish they weren't cut:

I hope they release an extended special edition cut of the film eventually like they did with Lord of the Rings. I don't care if it makes it longer, as I liked spending as long as possible in that world and seeing Cinderella's story.

I wouldn't mind if she did go by Cinderella. It's actually a pretty name and more exotic than just Ella. Of course, you couldn't really name any child that without them being made fun of relentlessly at school. If it were a real and more common name, then it might work, just as someone having the name "Belle", "Ariel" or "Jasmine" might work. But since it isn't, it would be like naming your child Rapunzel.

I just rewatched Cinderella and I think it's my favorite live action remake , but understand that something like Jungle Book is better technically. From the Fairy Godmother scene to the end, I can easily just stop and watch whenever it's on.

1. Cinderella
2. Beauty and the Beast
3. Jungle Book
4. Pete's Dragon
5. Alice in Wonderland
6. Maleficent
7. 101 Dalmations
8. Oz the Great and Powerful
9. Alice Through the Looking Glass
