It's funny how this works, but great films get better and bad films get worse, the more you watch them. And it seems even more so with SW films.

This will ultimately be the test for TLJ, in my opinion. As many have pointed out, ESB, lauded as the greatest of SW films, was highly criticized when it released in 1980. They say genius is never truly appreciated in its time, and I expect that TLJ will fall into that category as time goes on.

The Force Awakens gets worse. I liked it a lot the first time, but the more I watch it the more shallow and bland it gets. I notice more and more mistakes and errors each time. It's still fun to turn on occasionally, but not as much as others.

Rogue One gets better. I liked it the first time, but every time I watch it I notice more and more small details, and see how the plot connects and interweaves throughout the movie. It's truly become one of my favorite movies of recent years.

The Last Jedi gets...well, I've only seen it once and I didn't really like it. I don't know if I'll see it again in theaters or not. I can't imagine watching this one very often, and I get the feeling it will be with a good amount of fast-forwarding.

As for the rest, I've been watching them for so many years that the frequency of watching them is pretty steady, and they don't necessarily get better or worse than the last time. I probably watch ANH the most and AOTC the least.

SW AND is possibly one of the most rewatchable films of all time. I saw it many times in the cinema ( back in the day it got re released a lot). Sitting in a darkened movie theatre watching it is still an incredible ride.

ESB not quite so rewatchable, but I've researched the final duel many times. While it may not be the flashier or have the best choreography, it is the most dramatic of any lightsaber duel in the entire series.

ROTJ I rewatch at least once a year - it's a decent end to the trilogy and answers all the big questions. One critic compared it to a tin of baked beans - it satisfies your hunger but isn't a real quality feed, and I can see that.
However, given how awful many 3Rd chapters in film trilogies it's pretty good - and there are some real moments of tension and emotion in it ( e.g. the words " How can they be jamming us...if they don't know that we're coming?" still make me smile).

The prequels , I only ever rewatch Phantom menace' s final Darth Maul duel scenes. AOTC I think I've seen twice and that was enough to know it was awful. ROTS was okay the first time, but on rewatches it goes downhill fast.
Somehow it takes what should be the most dramatic moment of the series and makes me not care about it at all.
Do people really rate Ewan McGregor as Obi Wan ? I always felt like he phoned those performances in. I mean the dialogue as written was awful, but his performance in AOTC and ROTS felt like a comedy impression of Alex Guinness. Strangely he was better as Padawan Obi Wan.

As for TFA I only saw it once, because I liked it a lot more the first time I'd seen it , back in 1977- I mean it was pretty much the same film as ANH, but for a bigger death star and a female Luke. No need to ever see it again.

I will probably see TLJ again, as I liked Luke's arc ( it doesn't equal anyone the originals) but it's not bad. Will it get better, with a second viewing? I'll let you know.2

Anyway, IMO the short answer to this question is "No" the great movies remain great and the crappy ones don't get any better.

I will never tire of watching Episodes 4,5,6 over and over, and always get the feeling of seeing them as I did first time round, upon release.

Can leave the prequel trilogy, give or take scenario for me in all honesty.

New set of films, Rogue One - only seen it once at cinemas, have got the blu ray but not watched again yet.

This new trilogy - loving them, can see me watching them as per 4,5,6 in time, and the eventual 1-9 box set that will come.

The OT holds up. It doesn't go up or down by now, they are just consistently great.

The prequels aren't very good, but they do have some good moments that I can relive. I very rarely rewatch them in their entirety.

TFA was about the same on a rewatch, maybe a little worse. I've only seen it twice. I haven't rewatched RO as I didn't care much about the characters, but my disappointment with TLJ has actually made me want to watch RO again instead of TLJ another time. I will rewatch TLJ when it gets available at home though.

Not always. Honestly, the PT movies all got even worse on rewatches. TFA also went down a little for me on rewatches. TLJ I think may go up on rewatches. Just my gut feeling.

I've seen the Original Trilogy hundreds of times, it seems. I will never ever grow tired of those movies. Along with Lord of the Rings, it's my favorite movie trilogy of all time.

The prequels definitely get worse with multiple viewings. I didn't particularly care for Episodes I and II from the get-go, but I honestly loved Episode III when it first came out to theaters. It revitalized my love for Star Wars altogether during that time, to be honest. With more viewings, though, Episode III definitely gets worse. While I agree with the general consensus that it isn't a good film, I do still enjoy it if I catch it on tv or something. I think I loved it back in 2005 because I was thirsty for Darth Vader and was eager to see his origin unfold (as Vader is my favorite character in all of Star Wars). And I do think it is a considerably better film than I and II, so I guess I was excited that I didn't dislike it from the get-go.

I enjoyed The Force Awakens when it first came out, even though I acknowledged the flaws from the get-go (The Starkiller Base stuff was dumb back then). While I still maintain it is a fun movie and a well-made movie from a technical standpoint, I don't think it has much of a rewatchability factor. And after seeing The Last Jedi, I like this movie even less now.

I want to give The Last Jedi another chance at some point when it's released on Blu-Ray/DVD/Netflix/Redbox/whatever. I hated it the first time I saw it, but I've been told it holds up better on repeat viewings? We'll see, but I'm not expecting my opinion to be doing a 180.

With Rogue One, I actually really enjoyed it the first time I saw it (and I maintain it is a better film than TFA and TLJ). It was essentially a throwback of war movies, where the main "character" is actually the mission. From that standpoint, the movie works well for me, and the final act of Rogue One is still riveting stuff for me. Because of the weaker characterization in this movie, though, the first two acts of the film don't have a huge rewatchability factor. I've seen Rogue One twice at this point, and I enjoyed it both times. Is it a movie I could watch over and over again, though? Probably not.

It depends on what movie. Episode 1 and 2 are junk hated them day 1 so nothing can fix/improve that. Episode 3 I like but I used to like it more the flaws have stood out more to me has I have seen it more and also just has I have gotten older. episode 4 I like but has aged worse then the rest of the OT by far and I find to be overrated just because it was the start of the franchise. episode 5 and 6 I loved right away and have stayed like the same with liking 6 more. 7 when I first saw it I liked it but didn't love it. After seeing it a 2nd time I loved it. It gets better on repeat viewings. RO is greatly overrated there is a poll on hear and the amount of people that like it more then TFA was almost 50/50 and that is a joke has TFA was a much better movie. RO gets worse on repeat views. Characters that suck and are just there and at times the movie is kind of boring. TLJ I have only seen once so I cant say.

I have seen ANH and ESB more times than I can count. They haven't budged. Still #1 and #2 overall in my book.

ROTJ is a film that actually got worse over time for me. Certain plot holes started to stand out, and I wasn't a huge fan of some of the acting, notably Harrison Ford's performance in the film. Overall its still a good movie, but it continues to drop as more films are released.

I think most of the PT is terrible, but it has moments. I have watched those certain moments multiple times, but as an entire film none of the PT films have a high rewatchability.

TFA has gotten better because each time I think I love the interaction with the characters more and more.

RO, wasn't that high on it at the time I watched it, and that hasn't changed. A largely unnecessary film with one great sequence at the end. I like it, but I can't see myself watching it much on my own.

I have a feeling I'm going to be watching TLJ many, many, many times over the years.

Only RotS did not get better after watching it again.
Have not watched TLJ again and am not sure i will until the BlueRay is released.

2nd viewing and TLJ definitely improved for me. The themes resonate more and it was nice catching some additional nuggets that I missed the first time.
